Explanation:The first of a series of promotional artworks for Shadowdawn, the jRPG set in my original story world of Euterra. There will be eight in total, each set before the story of the game (or manga as it may turn out to be at this rate) and focusing on the life of each of the main characters. The theme of this portrait is the character Galven (the red-headed guy eating ramen), who is enjoying an unusually quiet moment outside of his cabin home in the forests of his homeworld Fractalis with his friends. He really likes his ramen (noodles) :3 The character at his back is Morsett, a thief who likes to get him into trouble at his home village. Princess Lyone is the cheeky girl in the center, and Prince Candril is the knightly looking guy behind her (yes, he's a guy... maybe that explains his expression
) Viola is off to the right... she's an Itonal, which is a race of music-loving faerie people native to Fractalis who used to be made entirely of living energy until they were forced to take physical form.Comments:
This was an incredibly difficult project, since I 1) don't draw backgrounds (first one in 6 years, and 3rd one ever) and 2) have never drawn any of Galven's friends before. So not only did I have to concept them on the fly, I also had to figure out their outfit colours and everything @.e; I'm also not very fond of perspective... but that is probably lack of practice with real backgrounds and having to worry about a vanishing point. I hope by the end of the series of portraits, I'll have learned a lot. I just hope you enjoy this work as much as I do :3

that is one hot background for only a third try. I especially like the work on the trees (foreground and background) and the mountains. Did you do this all with Photoshop?
Ah, and I effin love the characters and their stories -- good job on getting the personalities to poke through. and I love the shading on the front guy, Galven was it? Either way, he's pretty cute!

yep all done in photoshop ^^ the background was in its own huge photoshop file... soooo many filters @.e;; (this project made me realise just how badly I need to get a RAM upgrade)
yay someone likes Galven ^^ that makes this whole project worth it, since he's the theme of this one :3

Ya know, your drawing is great and I don't deny it. But though you use a graphic tablet, I still always feel that your line art is a bit hard, which doesn't suit most female characters. Your colouring is, too.
About this pic, I know it has taken a lot of your efforts. But as I said above, they are what you should fix. Besides, the shadows don't look so natural.
However, it's still a great materpiece though

actually, I don't draw with a tablet... all my drawings are scanned in directly from pencil 
the only thing I ever use my tablet for (as wasteful as it is) is colouring very small details
it's funny that you bring up the line art thing, since it is the first time I've heard that suggestion. During the final touches of my work I usually play with several styles of decorating the 'line art' layer so that it blends with the colouring layers below it, and the thicker, darker lines and the subsequent blur are actually layer effects I intentionally put on it to assist in blending... but I never considered it would be more detrimental towards female characters. I may have to spend a little time tonight with my existing drawings (including this one) and see what can be done differently with those lines. =^.^=
My (misleading?) comment said "I don't do backgrounds" as an explanation why this work was difficult, since I -did- do the background for it. Sorry for the confusion :3 It actually wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
I completely agree with your shadow comment, however. They don't fit the perspective at all, something I'll pay attention to next time (or I could fix this now, lol) As I said... I'm still learning

^-^ thank you! my roommate seemed to notice the lighting right away before anything else @.@; I think by the time I started working on that, my computer was ready to implode... I was just glad to have the file closed by then XD

As much as we all hate doing the backgrounds you've done a great job.
Plus winging your characters really shows that you've got kick ass talent and/or a great ability to capture what's in your mind's eye.
...and on another note: RAMEN?!
