Description I'm not a big videogame player, but I've always loved the Soul Calibur series and Taki in particular (not for the obvious reasons, I must add! =^_^. This is her a la Soul Calibur 2 guise; not my best work, by a long stretch, but I still kinda like it.

I somehow miss Taki now after seeing this. She was one of my favourite female characters in the game series

Yes, I recently acquired Soul Calibur V for my not-quite-as-recently-acquired PS3 and my dear Taki seems to be absent from the character selection list, unless one has to unlock her first. Slightly disappointing, that, being my favourite Calibur fighter.

I don't know if I should apologize for bringing up such bittersweet memories, but I am grateful for you taking a look and more for commenting.

Very nice! I like how you preserve her Japanese ethnicity, which even the games don't bother to do.

You have marvellously blended Taki's distinct mix of seductive femininity and warrior toughness and truly captured her character in this very well-drawn piece.

I particularly like how you have her bosom raised, no doubt they are jumping from the momentum of her raising her arms to strike so rapidly. A very thoughtful consideration of physics on your part, which adds an extra dimension of life to the picture as a whole.

Well done!

Thank you so much for your complimentary and well-considered comments; frankly, I was uncertain if anyone was even looking, so it's most heartening when someone stops by and takes the time to comment, especially in the manner in which you have done.

Insofar as the piece itself, it's one I look back upon with some ambivalence; it was by no means my most straightforward piece of work - there were many redraws accompanied by much profanity - and it did not turn out entirely to plan. The piece was intended to include a background of some kind of Shinto temple or shrine, against which Taki was to lean - hence her raised arms and equally raised bosom - but other problems with the piece - as well as my aging hardware (and I'm not referring to me) -discouraged me from continuing. So, in one of my rare 'Sod it, it'll do' moments, I gave it a simple concrete wall sort of background and considered it 'done', which came as some disappointment, as being my favourite of the Soul Calibur canon (and not for the most obvious of reasons, honestly), I wanted to ensure that my tribute to her reflectedmy fondness of the character.

That said, I'm by-and-large happy with how Taki herself turned out. The combination of femininity and warrior strength is precisely what I was aiming for and retaining something of her ethnicity was a consideration, as I felt her character designs didn't quite illustrate (no pun intended) it enough. My one gripe is her posterior; I really wanted to give her a pleasing behind, but despite several redraws, I never managed it, mostly down to my poor anatomical knowledge, I feel.

I have considered a redux of this piece, using a similar pose, I'm not sure, but producing a more embelished piece, closer to the original idea. However right now, I'm still stuck with the antiquated piece of hardware I produced this on, thus its processing power is far short of my requirement to produce something so polished, so it remains on the back-burner, for now.

Apologies for the somewhat profuse reply, but I felt you might be interested in my thoughts behind the piece and thank you once again for your kind remarks - it more than made my day.

G-san.

You're quite welcome.

And as fine as this picture is, I must admit that a complementing Japanese background, like a Shinto shrine, would make it even more amazing.
