I think the composition has been aranged well and that the over exposure has added to the softness of the face nicely but it has also disrupted the background, especially in the top right and bottom left. The very bright areas distract from the focus on the subject.
To achieve the same softness without over exposing consider taking the image into photoshop, duplicating the face and changing the blending to overlay or soft light depending on what looks best and if need be, playing around with the levels to see what produces the best result.
