Description Often, scribbles on a page evolve to something more. I'm getting back in the saddle, as time finally permits.

I'm growing increasingly impatient with my scanner, as I feel it does my drawings a severe injustice. I work very hard to smooth the lines and shading...

oh well.

Rockin dude! Try taking down the brightness on your scanner, that may help.

Something about this strikes me as having a kind of Beachum quality to it. I think it's the way you handle the shadows.

I just looked up some of his work after reading your comment. He's got to be one of my favorite artists now! Had seen some of his stuff before but didn't know his name so thank you!

It's quite the compliment.

I love Storm from the X-Men comics & the 3 movies. Her pose is very confident, yet strong.

My scanner completely kills all my hard work of shading in a pencil drawing BY fading out everything...it also loathes bright colors, especially dark blue or purple. My original artwork LOOKS WAY better in person than up here on my DA Art Gallery.

Yes, they do look better in person than on the screen. Something I just have to accept, I guess.

Thanks!

Yup, then it does seem to be the case for my art as well.
Then again the photos of your artwork makes it look worse, than better.

Welcomes.

And I'm glad you like the new rendering. Been going through old ones and redoing them...seeing the growth in my abilities.

Scanners really enjoy murdering good pencil drawings. But seeing as this looks absolutely fantastic it must have been really good prior to the scanner's injustice. Sweet.

ive been having the same problem with ALL scanners. I work so hard on my pencils and either the scanner doesnt pick them up correctly no matter how I adjust the settings. Oh well.

Nice Attention to the lighting man, Id also like to point out how you used a delicate gesture in the hand and wrist for wielding the lightning. Losts of nice touches in here.

A casual gesture lends more to the idea of being the elements' master, I think. Thanks for noticing

TGping [2008-09-11 11:46:17 +0000 UTC]

awesome work!

But to 'fix' the shading, do you mess around with levels in photoshop?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

g0b1in In reply to TGping [2008-09-11 17:50:46 +0000 UTC]

I haven't tried modifying it with photoshop. Never got around to learning so it's just me, my pencil, and my scanner.

Something I should look into.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TGping In reply to g0b1in [2008-09-11 18:37:34 +0000 UTC]

well, messing with levels is relatively basic, you can darken or lighten the whole image.

People also use curves for that. I think there is a lightness/darkness, or contrast option for most scanners, which is like the poor man's levels, lol.
