captaintony, whatya think?I drew this to a larger scale than I’m accustomed to. I guess I’m so used to scribbling pics in the margins of my college notepads during classes that I just got used to drawing small. And surprise…the 0.3mm pencil that I’m accustomed to just doesn’t cut it with a figure scaled to this size. So I had to use my 0.7 which I normally use for shading large areas. (I really need to get a 0.5) Interesting…working with it this way. It creates a different line and felt like drawing with a crayon. But I think I pulled it off. It’s not as clean as I’d like but I think the roughness fits the character.
Add some smoky shading to alleviate the pain of thinking of an appropriate background to draw and, by Crom…if that isn’t Conan then I don’t know what is.
And thanks to Trace…for providing the soundtrack for this piece (see…I like to listen to music when I draw). DJ Shadow still rocks!

don't get me wrong its awesome and i'm gonna fav it, but conan shouldn't look clean shaven, you know what i mean? he looks like a mid twenties superman, and even if he is mid twenties, with all the shit he goes through, he should look like hes aged a lot more. other than that awesome shading, awesome figure placement and anatomy

I don't take the slightest offense to your criticisms. In my mind, it's even worthy of a few more, as are many of my drawings from this far back.

i'm glad i didn't come off as an ass. i just wanted to point out something that i noticed. with that out of the way, i was looking through your gallery and i got to say your shading and figure placements are some of the best i seen. i just wish you would do more batman. for people who like to draw capes and shadows, he is the benchmark. anyways keep it up.

I actually know almost nothing of Conan accept what's in the movies and a few comics I had when I was a kid. I thought he always had long hair.

Very nice. The only book I ever read by the author of Conan was Chapter 1 of Bran Mak Morn (I forgot the exact title, but it was an old 1960s printing that belonged to my father when he went to Wayne State University)...then I completely lost interest in the book altogether
