Description
More bristol work. My first Macabre/Horror drawing...at least that I can remember. Not what you're used to seeing from me but oh well.Listening to Enigma's "The Alchemist." That might have something to do with this.
...
Sam, that sketch I stuffed in your locker the other day was a precursor to this. I decided to do something completely different with the use of hands. HAH!

The nosferatu in this picture is very different from the nosferatu in the old film you mentioned. However, "nosferatu" is a Romanian word that is synonymous with the word "vampire", so I guess it fits. Still, I like this a lot! The shading is beautifully done. The You were telling me months back about how adding hatching and shading can be done without aging the character, and now I see that in its application (though I'm still not sure how to approach it).
It's great to see you're still pumping out awesome work. Still learning anatomy, so hopefully I'll be ready to ask you again about dramatic shading by the end of the summer. I still can't figure out, though, how to use dramatic shading to shade/render metallic armor on costumes that might not necessarily conform to the shape of anatomy (like capes, ornamental knee guards or shoulder armor, etc.). Hair is another thing I've had great difficulty approaching....
One question, though.... I've tried to draw other characters with a similar, wide-mouthed expression like this (like the comic book Joker), only it's difficult to find references when the human mouth doesn't open so wide. How did you approach that wide-mouthed look?

Hmmm...the only thing I could suggest with regards to the expression is to perform the expression in front of the mirror. You'll get the basic structure of the expression that way. Once done, you can experiment with exaggerating it until it looks right. This is also where your personal style comes into being.
Of course, you could always use references like Joker pics if you like.

It's the name of a famous black and white vampire movie from around the 30s.
Thank you.

I honestly didn't know how this pic would be recieved, considering it's a bit more intense than what you normally see on my page.
Glad to know people like it. Thanks.

At first I got the feeling that it was the vampire who cut his/her own head off and pushed it into the face of the onlooker, but something tells me that is not the case.
In any case, I really love the expression and the drops of blood emerging from the severed neck.

Actually, that's my hand. Well, I modeled the hand after mine as I held my left in front of me to get the angle right.
Thanks.

I once did that during class in school. After a while, people came asking why I had been observing my hand with such interest. XD

Came to think of it. This looks VERY similiar to the warcraft 2 artwork in which Doomhammer presents the severed head of Blackhand. Mm... I love how brutal warcraft used to be... just look what has become of it...

I'm not familiar with Warcraft so I have no idea of the references you mentioned. This is a sketch that I redid from one I did while at work (entirely inappropriate for the workplace). I tweaked it at home on bristol and it was a lot of fun. Instead of a vampire as predator, I have him as the victim. Thought it was a nice twist.

Hot damn does that look great. I mean well rendered. The hair and the hand especially. I've always been a bigger fan of vampires with jacked-up irises though. White eyes looks too comic booky.
Most vampires die when you decapitate them. I don't even wanna know why this one is still kickin.
Way cool.

If you look closely at the eyes, you'll see that I actually experimented with the use of irises. Not sure why I opted for the no-iris look. I might darken those lines a bit to give him some.
Thanks.

It'd be awesome to see this coloured! You could really turn this already darkish drawing into an even more sinister piece.
