It is said that Cubone are the baby Kangaskan and when their mother dies they take their mother's skull and become Cubone and then mature and become a Marowak

but in the old games in lavender town, the cubone's dead mother was a marowak.
and the black and white pokedex entry for marowak says:
"From its birth, this savage PokΓ©mon constantly holds bones. It is skilled in using them as weapons."
the little kangaskans do not carry a bone.

that is true but did you know that Kangaskan was suppose to evolve from Marowak but Nintendo deleted it at the last moment making Missingno. That's why Missingno. can evolve into Kangaskan plus Kangaskan is a mother Pokemon and so if the mother dies, the baby Kangaskan is orphaned and it takes its mothers skull and takes a bone and you know the rest

but that still doesnt address that they carry around a bone from its birth. that means as soon as it's born, it finds a bone and makes it its own.
