Yesterday was fun...I got Maria's belt chains painted finally :3 I don't think I can go any further until I make the skirt though; I have 70 links in the belt like her model does, but we will see if I measured the size of each piece well enough to use all 70 or I'll need less D:I also finally started painting her pistol, and the base white part for nurse Eileen is started (though I need to get a separating zipper and cut out the one that is on there, and I left the collar too). The fit is pretty accurate, though the sides come up a bit high. Can't bring that one to cons
Not sure what to work on today, maybe some memento stuff. Man I can't wait until the semester is finished...
Title from the Strokes new album; I personally don't think it is as good as their other three albums. They were the only band I could think of whose music was consistent through their career, but that changed now :< The title refers to the pills which I have in the picture...I personally speculate that Lisa probably self medicated a little too much given her appearance.

Thank you; I completely agree. Perhaps in time more people will cosplay from the game. The weirdest thing about SH cosplay is that I've seen a lot of elaborate monster costumes from 5, and people tended to dislike that game even more than Shattered Memories :<

I guess the monsters from 5 are easier to cosplay. While the designs didn't seem to have as much depth, they were still kind of neat. I found the raw shocks in Shattered Memories weren't the most exciting. not that I'm saying that in a critical way. I think Shattered Memories strength and focus lay in the characters. I actually found the story and dialogue more interesting than the chase sequences. Plus Akira Yamaoka's score, as usual spot on.

I totally agree! I actually really like the dimension of the monsters in 5. Siam, the Schism, the bosses...even PH (though I do wish they had depicted him differently.) I love the feral's design, even though they don't really mean much of anything. Did you know about the flashlight on the nurse's abdomen trick? If you haven't tried it, I really recommend it; it makes their presence at least worth with one of the motifs in the game haha.
In Shattered Memories I actually disliked the game at first, until I got to the end and started to think back on the character's interactions and what the raw shocks actually represented for Cheryl. And then of course I started thinking about what Cybil, Lisa and Michelle mean for Cheryl and I was hooked (especially on Lisa!). Speaking of SHSM I've had quite a fun day working on mementos and a tookie plushie for my Cheryl cosplay...which got me listening to Akira's awesome music, and as you say it just really matches the game perfectly.

Maybe I haven't given it enough thought but I must admit that I didn't fully get Lisa's part in Shattered Memories. Everyone else made a ton of sense but I couldn't quite place her. I thought the whole marriage and relationship thing was a neat exploration in that game. It's an uncommon theme in video games, at least from that kind of angle.

Between the memento found at her place, how Harry meets her, her high risk lifestyle (I would guess she self medicates quite a bit by the way she looks?), and her death, I feel that she represents Cheryl's survivor's guilt over living through the crash. I think Infinite Jest also suggests that Lisa also represents a slight suicidal tendency in Cheryl (perhaps as a result of the survivor's guilt).
What did you come up with for Cybil?? I have vague ideas, nothing concrete though ;3;
The marriage aspect was indeed interesting! I haven't seen too much of that in my life so t was a neat thing to have.

I'm not entirely sure about Cybil. She's kind of a double edged sword. As much as she helps Harry, she's somewhat of a hindrance. She's almost a guiding figure but she seems reluctant.
I also like some of the ambiguity of the ending. In the end, when the doctor talks about Harry Mason being in Cheryl's head it isn't clean cut. On one hand, it could be her imagination. On the other (Especially given the character's role in the original game) She could have actually conjured him into existence. But then if it's just her imagination then why isn't he the perfect man that she imagines. So it could be that he's a ghost and at the end, he too accepts the truth and fades away. I just love the layers in that.
I appreciate this game as it's own thing, but as much as it is different it still fits Silent Hill. I know it is it's own universe and everything but it fit the whole mind fuck set by the early games.

Exactly! As you said this game has so many dimensions & "what-ifs" associated with it. I think that's why I liked it so much too; the different ways it can be interpreted really fascinate me.
