There was a thunderstorm one night and the lightning was really intense. There wasn't too much rain coming down, so I decided to go out and test my luck. I got about 10 shots of lightning, but most of them were too washed out or I they just didn't look good, but this one definitely wins the prize. I really like this one.Related content

Nice capture! Lightning as you know is really hard to capture, but you've managed this one rather well. I'd crop a bit of the empty space to the right, other than that this looks pretty good.

thanks, this one was a bit easy though, since there was just some much of it I was bound to get a good one. this was actually taken with my point and shoot camera. Since having the xt there hasn't been a lightning storm to test my luck with that. There should be some come spring. thanks for the suggestion

ten shots out of a storm would be a lot for us here in south florida ... the storms move by very quickly, and we'd be lucky to get just one with decent composition (perhaps i'm just too picky! lol)
anyway, this is beautiful! i love the purple hue and the lightning itself is amazing! great capture.

thanks. yea, i got several that night. The storm was crazy, not 10 seconds went by with out a flash. So it made it pretty easy to get some captures, but the hard part was getting good composition on them. This one was by far the best one. thanks again.

thank you. that night was insane with lightning. it didn't stop for 2 seconds. so i just went out and just went click click click click and i got a few good ones, but this one by far was the best.

thank you. the sky was originally a boring whitish color, so i livened it up a bit with photoshop. it kind of brought out the grainyness of the photo when i did that, but that's the cameras fault.

I got my first really purple sky pre digital with some Kodachrome 64 slide film, shooting it at 50 and not being very careful with the exposure. Your purple looks better.

Nicely done! I've never been able to score a lightning shot. Nice forks in it too
