Can someone tell me about the safe dates on a recent FP-5 filter? I've heard that it contains chromium, and i'm not sure about what year they stopped using it.

asbestos was not replaced by activated charcoal
asbestos was used for a particulate filter and almost all gas mask filters used activated charcoal to filter toxic gas.

A lot of MS-4s I find online are made in 1992. Generally speaking, 90s Polish filters are safe. A lot safer than many other Eastern Bloc filters at least. I personally use MS-4s as well as brand new Chinese filters with my GOST masks.

I have polish E-014 (EO-14 I think) Canister filter and I have no idea if it is safe. I want to be able to cosplay with it. When I shake it a little I can hear particles moving around so I dont know if it is loose asbestos fibers....or a charcoal carbon sand type of mix. :/ I got it from a military surplus store and I dont think they would sell something with asbestos with out telling or warning the buyer. Pls help D:

If the filter material of the M11 filter is not broken is it safe to use for some time with it?

Some people say it's safe. It's because some containers were produced withn lead, which could only be hazardous if the paint peeled of or get rust due time.
If you ask me. I personally don't use any expired filter or produced before 2000.

This is important for cosplayers and such!!! I myself bought the polish version of the russian gp-5 gasmask. The polish one had the hose and the EO-14 filter. I had been using it for fun and such for quite some time and only just recently found out i could have possibly been inhaling asbestos. It pisses me off because i kind of wanted to keep the filter, but now it is gone because of my paranoia about the asbestos fibers spreading around my room. The place i bought it from, and stores in general, don't mention anything about the asbestos hazard.

Yeah, the information is very scarce. Although you don't need to panic. It is only really dangerous if the filter media is broken and if the asbestos is deteriorated. Of course, it's better safe than sorry.
