Template created by DarkMoonAnimation.WARNING: The following criticism that will be given below is just a personal opinion of mine being a fan of both Alien and Predator, without this same opinion being something definitive or unique that I do not plan to offend the opinion of other people who have seen these movies, in addition to that spoilers will be given for those who have not seen it, so they are warned.
- Awesome: Are those movies which surprised and delighted me, in this case being the first two installments of both "Predator" and "Alien". The reason is because in itself, they are the ones that best handle the suspense and survival horror against the Yautja and Xenomorphs, a very well written and developed story, the characters (like Dutch, Ripley or Harrigan) are memorable and are not irritating or have the script on their side. And the antagonists (like the Jungle and City Hunters, like the Xenomorph Queen) are a real aggressive and violent threat, making you uncomfortable and causing a tension when they are on the prowl, plus the visual and artistic effects of the same get you into the atmosphere of the same.
- Great: Those that, even if they are not masterpieces, are still very good releases that are dedicated to telling an interesting and well-told story. In this case we have "Alien vs Predator" and "Alien 3". I know many will think I'm just a fanboy and that both are crap, but here are my reasons. Even though the story of both have several inconsistencies with their predecessors (past releases), they still manage to give characters with very good development. In "Alien vs. Dperedador" we have, in my opinion, one of the best female characters of the saga next to Ellen Ripley, Lex Woods, who in my opinion is a well developed character who does not need feminism nor flaunting her skin color to be relevant, as well as Scar, who is a yautja who shows more of the code of this species at the time of initiation, plus the story develops more of the lore of this world in an original way. In "Alien 3" there is a theme that combines the Cyberpunk with the Gothic, and thanks to the work of David Fincher, it leaves you with a bittersweet and disturbing feeling as well as the deaths that become much bloodier and with less censorship than in previous releases, and like other times, Ripley proves to be a woman who will not be harmed even if she lost everything, and her sacrifice at the end to stop the Xenomorphs becomes touching when the film ends.
- Good: They are those that are decent, that is to say, that have a balance between their faults and virtues, which is not a masterpiece but is not disrespectful either. In this case we have "Predators" and "Alien: Resurrection". Both have many inconsistencies with their predecessors and some even copy elements from them, but they still manage to have quite good and well-worked characters and moments. In "Predators" we have a group of criminals with whom you get to be irritated, but there are moments where you sympathize with them, as well as the "Yautja Bad Blood", which you get to be intrigued by the lore, plus the effects were still practical, sure, with its CGI but that didn't affect the feeling of being preyed upon by beings that have no morals whatsoever, but its character development and storyline copied the '87 original and there were no explanations as to how the characters got to that hot planet. As for "Alien: Resurrection", you will know that there is the nonsense of Ripley's cloning, the strange attitude of the Xenomorphs and other characters and how not to forget the Newborn Alien (the hybrid of Ripley's blood); but the story in general is still entertaining and at least it doesn't bore you and has some memorable moments.
- OK: These are those releases which were disappointing or did not take advantage of their full potential or which have more mistakes than successes. In this case we have "Prey (2022)" and "Alien vs Predator: Requiem", which had good things, but end up being bad compared to the previous ones. In "Prey (2022)" we have the feral predator that becomes intimidating, aggressive and very bloodthirsty, being a point in favor, just as they decide to return to the suspense of the first releases and a much more serious atmosphere and a much more polished visuals, what ruins everything is that they decide to put current issues such as the disgusting machismo in most male characters (being all), and also the horrible progre feminism applied to the main character who, like all the other characters, have a very bad development and poorly written, plus it is a great incoherence to the whole saga by wanting to be a remake of the comic "Predator 1718" (which is when all this is set), wanting to alter the lore and put pure stupidities and nonsense that make this return of the Yautja saga has not been worth it. And with "Alien vs Predator: Requiem" we can say that we have some points in favor as the Yautja Wolf, which has a leading role in the same, which comes to intrigue you to know more of their skills Xenomorph hunter and also becoming equally violent and cold-blooded or even more than the aliens themselves, the Predalien comes to disturb you and actually becomes much more dangerous than the species of which it is hybrid, also the tension is felt in the air and this was the last release to have some practical effects, the bad thing is that the human characters become a nuisance and are too irritating, also the way in which the Predalien comes to Earth becomes too forced, the character development becomes very little and its visuals are very dark, that is, you can hardly see anything, like in the 2005 "Doom" movie where you could hardly see anything, and its ending is somewhat disappointing.
- Bad: These are the premieres that are not worth it at all, they are very horrible in every way and have millions of inconsistencies with the saga. In this case we have "The Predator", "Prometheus" and "Alien Covenant", which become ridiculous, without any success or that were simply made to take money from both sagas unfairly. In "The Predator" we have a comedy with a humor that is not funny, some very poorly done visual effects, a story and plot that has no development other than the cliché of "There is a murderous alien and we have to survive", the characters in the whole story they are idiots who are very poorly written and worked, it has several inconsistencies such as the fact that the boy in the tape knows the Yautja language and knows how to use their technology, the fact that now there are also hybrid Yautjas that don't look like the real deal, and an open ending that came to nothing. In "Prometheus" and "Alien Covenant" we have the return of Ridley Scott as director, but it seems that the absence of working on the saga caused him to lose experience, because both are prequels that explain the origin of the Xenomorphs in a confusing and incoherent way through the Engineers so that it connects with the original from 79, and to top it off the special effects look so bad that you don't even think that the Xenomorphs are real in this movie, but also that the characters don't have development and their participation in the plot is so tedious that even one wants to be killed, and with a quite forgettable soundtrack.
