Can I just use white paint for the highlights?

Thanks you so much for this tutorial, it Β helps a lot but i have a few questions. Is it better to use mechanical pencils? I've always had a preference for graphite pencils but that's also because i haven't drawn very much with mechanical ones. If not then what is the equivalent for the mechanical pencil lead (like 0.5) to the graphite pencil lead (like 6H)

GabrielleBrickey In reply to Zoey20029 [2015-07-14 01:40:57 +0000 UTC]
It all depends on your preference. If you like graphite pencils then stick to that. I just tried mechanical and preferred them. Β
The 0.5 is just the circumference of the lead. So how big around it is. See in this picture, the different size leads-Β 4.bp.blogspot.com/_AfrPaG3Klqoβ¦
You can put 6H lead in a 0.3- 0.9 pencil though, depending on if you can find someone who sells it. So you would just have to buy a pencil- maybe 0.3 or 0.5, then find 6H lead, the same grade you already use, to put in it This is the brand I like- www.dickblick.com/products/sta⦠Also Draft Line I personally like.  Pentel lead is what I use too. It's nice and smooth- www.pentel.com/store/super-hi-⦠www.pentel.com/store/super-hi-⦠(0.5 6H looks like its offered in a lead here)
Best to you!!

Hi! I would like to draw with ONLY mechanical pencils but do they come in what graphite pencils come in?? For example, 3H, 2B, 4B, etc...?
π: 0 β©: 1
GabrielleBrickey In reply to shylee1234 [2016-08-26 15:45:54 +0000 UTC]
yes! They do. Just buy the right size lead to fit into your pencil.Β
For example- 0.5mm opening, can only hold 0.5mm lead. 0.3 will slip out and 0.7 or 0.9 won't fit.Β
I like to use 0.3 mechanical pencil with 0.3 3H lead
as well as a 0.5 mechanical pencil with 0.5 4B lead.Β
Just make sure the 0.#s match up
Pentel lead is a great, smooth lead.

This is an awesome tutorial! Your drawing might even look better than the actual photo! I have a question though, what's the difference between a regular eraser and a kneaded eraser? I can tell they look different, but other than that, what makes one better than the other?
π: 0 β©: 1
GabrielleBrickey In reply to Human-pon3 [2013-09-16 17:34:41 +0000 UTC]
Well I like to have both personally. The regular eraser is good for erasing large areas faster. I like the kneaded eraser because you can mold it into different shapes, like you can mold it to a point. Thanks!!

Ok, thanks! That's helpful, cuz now I don't have to look around for a kneaded one xD
And, You're welcome!

Great, I practiced, but it's harder than it looks. Great tutorial, though; my artistic skills aren't where I'd like them to be.
