Interesting. I'm used to seeing people starting with more detailed lines before they lay the base color layer. Is there any particular reason you do it this way?
Allthough, I've got to admit the more I think about it, the more logical this approach seems.

GabrielleBrickey In reply to bjarav [2012-09-15 22:35:10 +0000 UTC]

It's funny..because nowadays I work the exact opposite way of this. I mass in shadow shapes.
I guess it's just all in how you are feeling. With the method seen here, you keep trying to get the outline until it is exactly how you want it. Then once it's right, you start coloring it in. But with how I work now, you just sort of start laying in values, pushing them around until they are correct. That is my approach here- [link]
I think you can just do whatever you are feeling. If I want to feel more logical one day, very step by step, I may try out the first method. If I am feeling more creative and spontaneous another day, I may pick the second method. Does this answer your question? lol idk

Thanks for answering and it did help me. It's allways nice to see different approaches.
Since I'm pretty new to this I am trying to find "the perfect way" to draw. But the more I learn, the more it seems like "the perfect way" is to do what you're comfortable with, and what works for you
