I wish I had a billionth of your artistic and written talent but alas, I am no artist. I made an attempt but it just wasn't working. I guess some of us are writers, some of us are artists, and we can all gang up on you and beat you up in a jealous fit of rage for being both!

I think iv only got up to deathnote 9 or something? I dont remember. I borrowed them off a friend.
I dont really know whether I truely like the series or not. There seem to be very little in current times of the death gods themselves, and more and more about how the author/artist is congradulating himself on how cleaver he is. Personally I found it got rather boring because of this. I want more death god action goddammit!

Terribly creepy and gorgeous. And hot. The only criticism I have is that his hat doesn't quite seem to be sitting on his head... I do feel the need to go read this manga now, however.

I've got to see the anime... but I loved the manga. ^_^ Ah, I like this gory scene! The jester hat on L makes me wonder a bit about the type of shinigami he would be, and how his personality might change...

La, yeah, L had some great potential in going a bit nuts, you know? XD He didn't follow morality like the norm of society, but let logic and reason rule his actions. If he didn't have to answer to anyone I could see him playing with the Deathnote and changing as a result.

First, I must say that this is GORGEOUS. Not just aesthetically. It's definitely one of the most unique DN pieces I've seen, and it's one of my ideal visions too (well, of course. That's why I made the grotesque category in my contest xD). The concept behind it is so intriguing. Light, the evil puppet master doing whatever he likes with the "loser"'s corpse. Or something like that. Light's expression (or what you can see of it), seems almost oblivious to the fact that his pet is not alive. Or perhaps he's delighted because he's a sadist and this is how he always wanted to see L. Oh! And L's expression. It makes my chest tighten and then the vision of the bones and blood gives me that wonderful disturbed feeling. *__* So lovely. I love each and every detail. The one black wing, the ripped coat, the pool of blood. This is beyond any idea I could have ever imagined for the grotesque concept.
*fans self* Okay, I must calm down now. I wish you'd enter other categories too if you had time~ But oh well. Perhaps I'll commission you if I have any gold left or whenever you're open. xD

Part of me wants to explain it, but I also like that you're getting your own impression by looking at it, so maybe I'll keep quiet about it. Open to interpretation. <3
Really, I thought you should get a picture worth the caliber of the prize (even if it is digital). I felt a little bad about the other peeps, but then again, if you had more artists aware of the contest in the first place I'd never have a chance at winning. Yeahyeah but I wanna hear what the artist thinks of the picture! Haha, you're like me. Most of the time when I draw an original piece I put a LOT of symbolism and little details in it that not many people notice, but when they do, I like to see their reaction and how they interpret it. Of course, everybody interprets the piece differently, so it's cool to see. But I wanna know what your idea was behind it too. *_*
No wayyy. You're one of the 3 best artists I've ever seen on Gaia (Prodigy Bombay and some other girl whose name I cannot recall being the other two), so I don't think anybody could kick your butt. Especially because you're really creative and I FEEL your art, you know? I mean, even with PB lately I don't FEEL anything from her art. It's beautiful, but almost... lifeless to me.

Mm, it could be issues with drawing for people. I don't quite 'feel' when I'm doing commissions like I do for my own stuff. I don't know why though. O_o It's one of those things I'm trying to work on. PB does a lot of commission pieces so that could be an issue. I feel that lifelessness in the majority of anime art I see, which is why I think people don't regard it the same way as other styles... but that's a completely different conversation. XD
Ah, so the things I was thinking about when making this. And I say thinking because I never really came up with a defined story, only possibilities. The problem is I have read the whole series so I don't want to ruin it for you. It's based on L's death though, which happened by the 10th volume (I think O_O) and doesn't really give anything away besides that.
*There was your angle, Kira basically dressing L up and using him either as an object to goad over, or to idolize depending on his mindset.
*There was this thing in my head of Kira going 'I was right (as in 'just') and L going 'who cares? I still won.'
*They're both dead, L dead first. I was thinking maybe Light (the original sweet Light) coming to restore L.
*Oh, the jester hat was originally this thing in my head, L the fool, with the computer mouse around his neck to show how that assumption was false, Kira the King, hence the staff, but with the dark wing to show his taint and delusion.
*Obviously, the equality of their intelligence, and more so, equality in death, the great equalizer with the skull hanging over them and encasing them in blood.
*L's expression could be of death, or better yet, disinterest. I like the idea of Kira seeking L out in the after-realm, only to have L disregard him, something Kira could never handle with his pride. Even when killing L, Kira could never truly defeat him, never gain his true respect of his ideas, etc.
*And when L first died all I could think was of him coming back as a death god to beat Kira. His tenaciousness was so strong it just seem logical that he'd keep going, and in the same way, Kira. So this could be them turning into that.
Woo, and I think that's it. There could be more (I have a somewhat complicated brain) but those were the biggest thoughts/themes in my head while painting.

You know, I'm absolutely the same way. 0.o I feel really disconnected when it comes to commissions. I suppose it's because they're "work" and for money, not for the passion and desire to draw. Sometimes I really enjoy commissions (like say, if the idea really appeals to me), but most of the time I'm just like "Meh, let's get this over with". I don't even submit 70% of my commissions because I don't like them.
Oh wow! I didn't think of all of that. Mmm, I like the idea of Light seeking L out after death. I can only imagine how crazed he would become with L's disinterest! Kira is so power hungry it would probably be devestating if he was no longer in control. xD Your ideas are wonderful.
I noticed Light's staff/wing was symbolizing something like that. The cord/mouse was a nice touch. I didn't even notice it until I took a second look. Well, you have a very complex mind. I think you've done an excellent job portraying the dark side of the Death Note characters.

Me too. It's like, I put 100% of my ability into my commissions, I make sure I get every detail, perfection, etc, but the end result never gives me that same excitement or feeling of satisfaction. If I hijack my commission and sort of do it the way 'I' want, I tend to feel better about it, but otherwise... not so much. This pic here, I just had to get it done; I was just jumping at the thought of bringing this idea to life. I wish I could do the same with commissions. >_< *tells brain to work*

Oh, I wish my brain did something like that. I'd be far more interesting. xD I'm just really dumb like Matsuda. I can't comprehend most things until people explain them to me or point them out, and sometimes even then I STILL don't get it. Gosh. I don't think I was always this dumb. I just get dumber as I get older, maybe? Well anyway, yeah. That's one of the reasons I don't comment on art much because although it makes me feel a certain way, I have a difficult time explaining, with words what the drawing means to me.

I think it's awesome you like Death Note...I happen to LOVE death note, and Dembo is a big hater even though she's never WATCHED it! I ask you how someone can be so stubborn and such a hater about things when they haven't even tried to watch it! You know what I can guarantee she would love it if she did...and this pic is sooooo creepy, but at the same time amazing! good-job!

I've never watched the anime, but I adore the manga. It is just so original compared to all the other crap manga they have out there I couldn't help but love it. (reeeeeaaad itt!
