Description I want to do some illustrations with a textured look so I decided to try some different techniques. I don't want to use filters or brushes to get the effect, but focus on the 'marks' of the medium so it is rather time consuming. I'll figure it out.

Weird random buffalo/turtle/thingy. Painter IX

I've lost my motivation.

It's hard to get texture just like that without any effects. But I do encourage using filters/brushes palette anyway! Because you can discover something really awesome.

Wow, really cool! Those texture lines really do pop out! Almost looks like a photo of a string work or a decorated cake when you look up close. XD It looks unbelievably awesome far away, really would make a great illustration!

The creature is really cute! And the piece on whole has such a great warm feeling about it. ^_^

Wonderful job, keep up the fantastic work!

Pretty awesome as usual. It looks like a baby dragon, kind of, and it reminds me of Where The Wild Things Are. :3

It's adorable! I wanna touch it, and run my hands through the curly fur! I can almost feel it!

I'm trying to think what noise it would make to equate a cat's purr at that...

Lol, thanks hun. I'm glad you got the feeling of curls and fur.

It is really rather cool~ :'D I love the colours you've chosen for the textured parts of it~ And the way you've done the texturing in general looks really fantastic~! It looks almost like a spongy material X3;;
Texturing is quite time-consuming when not using filters/brushes/actual texture pictures *A* I admire you for doing this~! : D It makes me want to attempt a textured picture w/out an actual texture photo~ >v<

Thanks hun, I'd be interested to see those results too (once you figure it out tell me how to do it! XD)

I have this annoying part of me that really likes the challenge of breaking my fingers off. I really want to make a technique that reflects a sort of colored pencil/pastel look, you know, like traditional dry mediums, for this small illustration series. I'm not sure how I'd approach every sort of subject though; this guy was easy to let go and have fun, I might be much more restrained on a human figure.

Well, if you want to do a coloured pencil sort of look, you could always just do the style where you point the brush one way (like a horizontal stripe) and fill the area in, while gapping it in certain areas~ Do it on a light opacity and then fill it in with an even lighter opacity brush on top, but going the different direction~ Then you can fill it in thickly in parts with colour~ It should produce a pretty nice coloured pencil effect with a texture to it, also 8D

When you say the other direction, do you mean a sort of crosshatching?

And Thank You! I'll that a shot next.

Yah, it's like cross-hatching, except you can't really tell; all you can see is the textured-look~ 8D
