Description
These are my preliminary character designs for my 1-Quarter animation "Mushroom Soup." Give me suggestions, color help, etc. I will do all the character animation in Flash, so please keep design suggestions with that in mind. Thanks.Related content

those are cute designs I'd like to suggest at least one more color for grandma's waredrobe, like a random red, or yellow babushka scarf on her head, instead of being all black? She seems too happy and sweet to be all black
I like how the forest boy's eyes are hidden by his hair

If that is green-grey, I must gr my monitor cause it looks blue-grey. Now that I think about it, dA looks blue-grey too, but it's always been green-grey. Stupid crappy monitor I don't really like D:
Why doesn't he have eyeballs?
I like the grandmother xD

I don't really have any suggestions. I like the simple character designs and the muted colors. I can't wait to see them move.

As much as it pains me to say it, I agree with what was said by the girl on facebook (who is related to you?). The arms of the boy aren't balanced when you take his legs into account. (it pains me to say it because i like the minimalist approach to the legs)
The grandma, is her dress and head garment going to be seamless or will there be a line indicating where the hair tuff at the back comes from? The seamless idea is an interesting look but, stylistically, I think a black mass of a body clashes with the boys very definite sectioning.
Oh, by the way, this is Warren.

Oh, hey Warren. Yeah, I see the whole thing with the legs, and it makes me sad but I must do what I must do for the sake of the final product. *le sigh* For the grandmother, I was just going to keep her one big blob of black... but if it clashes... would I fix that problem if I have an area for her hair to stick out, like the bottom of the hat, hair, then her outfit?

i've been giving this some more thought (because i have no more exams), There are two ways to approach her without needing a definite separation of head to body. (mind you this is just my aesthetic, i'm not trying to sound like a precarious douche but it may turn out that way anyway)
One is with the animation. If the boys limbs and torso move in a curvilinear fashion (they have no joints) and you produce a similar effect with the women's torso and legs then the black mass thing will work very well.
Two, if you are having the boys body work in a more anatomic fashion (with joints) then all you would really need is creases to appear periodically in the area of the old women's neck when she turns her head away from forward. My point is to say, at times it should be made apparent that her dress is not one piece but two; HOWEVER, it doesn't need to be apparent all the time. If you're not sure what i mean, look at the aristocats or robinhood(furry version) the rough line definition for clothes that appears and disappears between keyframes.
The hair is a good fix but i like the illusion of her hair being in a bun and only the bun sticking out.
After all that, I'm trying to say that i've rather the old woman be a black mass, if the animation works the way I imagine.
(i might be sending mixed messages... sorry)

No, I get you. The animation is going to be curvilinear, or noodle animation! Yay. So I guess the black mass would be just fine at that point. I think that's what I was aiming at for the black mass thing to begin with. Thanks. :3

Looks awesome! No eyes, lul.
I like how you designed the old lady. The forest boy is sad though. D: Why so serious, forest boy?

I like th character designs alot. But if I have to say, if the forest boy lives in a forest... maybe some more brown or green maybe? Or maybe I'm making things too complicated...

His clothing is green... to compliment his hair... should I make them brown instead?

nah, it's just that it's such a light green, I thought it was gray with dark gray pants. It could be me, but even when I brought it in a paint program, it was still green, but in the gray area of green... maybe it's just me >.>;

Oh, yeah. I made it grayish green on purpose. I don't like really bright colors on my characters. I guess that's why my sister said it sorta reminds her of Chomet's work.

that's alright (I thought I was going colorblind when you said it was green ) Don't get me wrong, I do like your colors. It was just hard for me to decide on the colors without background ref. Going by the palette, it's gonna be epic!
