Sun Wukong is a famous character in china from a classic novel called "Journey To The West" so any anthropomorphic monkey character that fights with a staff and/or flies on a cloud is most likely based from him. there have been infinity of adaptations and influences from the character, one of the most famous ones is Goku from the Dragon Ball series.
