Description They were surprised, however, when they found two other teams walking to the ladder of the clubhouse. Not just any two teams, for that matter. One of them was comprised of a Jigglypuff and a Chikorita, both so loaded with accessories that they wondered how those two could even walk around, let alone battle. The other team floated above the Jigglypuff and Chikorita. They were two Elgyems. One of them, the older sister, had a light green bow tie around her neck, while the younger brother had no accessories. Lizzard smiled at their practicality. What was common among all of them, though, was that they were all children, or at least, younger than herself and Renegade.

Team Pecha and Team Elgyem, or LGM, as they were sometimes called. They would recognize them anywhere, especially after the events of the past few missions. But what were they doing here?

“Hey, Team Pecha! And Team Elgyem!” greeted Lizzard, waving a claw at them.

They turned to look, completely confused. “Who are you guys?” asked the Jigglypuff.

“Oh, whoops. Forgot ta introduce ourselves. I’m Lizzard, and this is Renegade.”

“We’re the Rejeckts,” said Renegade.

“The rejects?” asked Chikorita. “Who rejected you?”

Lizzard and Renegade chuckled, leaving the teams more confused than ever.

“No no no, we call OURSELVES Rejeckts because we’re awesome like that. And ya spell it like this…” Lizzard knelt down in the snow and spelled the word out with her claws.

“Ooooh…I get it,” said Chikorita.

Renegade looked up at the teams and noticed that Team Pecha was carrying a basket of sorts, as well as the fact that Team Elgyem was keeping a get-well card of sorts floating in the air. She grew curious. “So anyway, whatcha doin’ here?”

Ligray spoke up. “Oh! We’re here to help cheer Mike up. Since Mr. Chill can’t…come back…” She hung her head as she tried to finish the sentence.

“Sis, it’s okay,” said Rigley, trying to cheer up his sister.

Amy added, “And if it weren’t for Mike, we wouldn’t even be alive today, so me and Chikorita got something for him, too.”

Lizzard and Renegade whistled in disbelief.

“Whoa…” gasped Lizzard. “What did he do? If ya don’t mind me askin’.”

Chikorita explained, “Well, we come from a faraway place called Treasure Town, and because of something…really bad…we had to leave. It was snowy, much like today, except that it was also dark and windy. We walked and walked in the snow, but couldn’t find another town, and finally, we fainted.”

Amy picked up from there. “We thought we were dead…but then we woke up and found ourselves up there.” She pointed to the entrance underneath the clubhouse that the ladder led into. “Turned out that Mike and Chill were the ones that saved us that night.”

“Whoa…” Now Lizzard really respected Mike more than ever. Well, she always knew he was all about rescuing people and doing the right thing, but the fact remained that it turned out to be a very good decision. Imagine, there would be no Team Pecha if it weren’t for Mike! But still…

“What about you guys?” asked Ligray.

Renegade spoke up. “We’re here to give something to Mike, too! Can we come with you?”

“Sure, why not?” replied Ligray, lighting up. “I’m sure all of us could help cheer him up.”

As soon as the two teams’ backs were turned, though, Renegade whispered, “Lucky us, Lizzard. They’re on good terms with Mike. Maybe he won’t blow up at us, and maybe ya can even—”

“Shut up,” growled Lizzard, obviously knowing what Renegade would say next.

The six of them climbed (well, the Elgyems floated) up the ladder and entered the clubhouse. Team Pecha followed Team Elgyem all the way to Mike’s office, though they noticed that the Rejeckts seemed to know the way too. The implications of what this meant didn’t occur to them at the time, though.

Lizzard knocked on the door, though Amy was the one to ask, “Mike? You there?”

The Charmander with the cowboy hat and green scarf opened the door. “Oh, hey!” He looked a bit surprised to see a Rescue, Rogue, and Merchant team outside his door, but another part of him started telling him to expect things like these from now on. “Team Pecha, Team Elgyem…and…” A look of disapproval began to form on his face as his eyes turned to the Rejeckts. That Zorua with purple edges to her fur remained the same, and he recognized her as Renegade. But even though the leader was now a Charmeleon, Mike could still tell she was Lizzard, from the way her bangs fell in front of her eyes, to the white sash across her waist…even the sharp gaze from her eyes remained the exact same.

Amy and Chikorita held up the basket and whipped off the blanket, revealing it to contain several vibrantly painted dud eggs obviously from Tao Ranch. “This is for you!” said Chikorita. “To thank you for saving our lives.”

But Mike appeared to pay no attention to them. His eyes were still focused on the team he never sought reason to pay much attention to…until just recently. “Lizzard…Renegade. Why’d you guys become Rogues?”

Team Pecha and Elgyem were stunned. “Wait…what?” asked Ligray.

Mike turned to them and explained. “They used to be a Rescue team until recently. Didn’t you know that?”

Before anyone could react, Lizzard quickly butt in, “But that’s why we’re here! To say sorry!” She shoved the gift into Mike’s arms and explained, “Look, we just realized that Rogue life suits us better, okay? It’s nothing personal. Especially against you.” She emphasized the word “you.”

“And the Rejeckts just sounds better as a Rogue name, too,” added Renegade.

Mike stared at the box in suspicion for a few seconds before shoving it back into Lizzard’s arms. “How do I know this isn’t a sneaky Rogue trap like before?” he growled.

Before? Lizzard wasn’t sure what he meant—maybe that time he had bad experiences with Gunpowder and Devonshire—but she immediately set out to prove him wrong, tearing the gift box open and holding out its real contents; a few assorted berries and a mini gold trophy carved in Mike’s likeness. “Because I’m serious,” she replied.

“Oh I see how it is…” Mike grew even angrier than before. “You wait until the gift-giving time, when you’ve evolved, when Chill isn’t here anymore, and with these guys, thinking you can get me with your tricks. Well, I’m not falling for those anymore!”

“GROW UP ALREADY!” shouted Lizzard, finally losing her patience. “I did my best for ya while I was here! I’m doing my best to say sorry now, and ya don’t BELIEVE ME? What do ya have against us joinin’ other guilds when we find we make the wrong choice?”

“I have EVERYTHING against people doing that! You can’t be trusted! And not just by me, but by ANY of the leaders! Heck, I’m surprised Gunpowder and Devonshire haven’t kicked you out yet!”

While Lizzard and Mike continued their back and forth arguments, Amy and Chikorita shrank back, hoping they could slip out before anyone noticed. They felt ashamed. Mike had everything against people switching guilds? He might have rescued them long ago, but they ended up joining the Merchants instead of the Rescuers. Would he be mad at them too?

“And now I’ve got to run this whole stinkin’ guild all by myself, and I can’t have traitors like you selling our secrets to those no-good Rogues—!”

“Wait!” shouted Ligray.

Oddly enough, they both stopped shouting at the same time.

“What do you mean…by yourself? I thought Mr. Chill…I mean…”

Mike turned to her and explained, “Ligray. You see, when Chill went to Snowy Village…yeah, he rescued everyone from that Skarmory guy, Shiv, but then Shiv stabbed his sisters in the spine. He froze the guy, luckily, but the problem is…his sisters can’t walk anymore. So he’s staying in the village to take care of them.” Mike’s voice started to break. “He’s not coming back, guys. Now I’m the only leader of the Rescuers.”

“No…” A deep regret began to fill Ligray’s heart. “I’m so sorry, Mike! I should’ve been there! I should’ve BEEN there!”

To everyone’s shock, objects in the room began to fly around randomly, forcing everyone to dodge the projectiles. “Sis, stop! STOP!” shouted Rigley, knowing full well that it was her Telekinesis going out of control. Except that it was worse. Much worse.

“Whoa, Ligray, calm down! What are you talking about?” Mike was shocked. He had never seen Ligray act this drastically before.

To everyone’s relief, she calmed down and began to explain. “I swear we were going to help Mr. Chill on his mission. Honest. But everyone started talking about how he was looking for something that could control Sorb—I mean, Kyurem, and he’s really important to Amy and Chikorita…and we didn’t want to make them sad. Right, Rigley?”

“Yeah…maybe we could’ve stopped them, but…” Rigley couldn’t continue.

Amy and Chikorita were surprised. “Wait, what? Something can control Kyurem?” asked Amy.

Mike interrupted them, saying, “No it can’t! My sister Maple has it. The Icicle Triangle, I mean. I’ve seen her use it. It doesn’t do anything to him.”

“What, really?” Ligray sighed in relief. “Oh, that’s good…but that doesn’t change the fact that the Rogues might still have that cello thing…” She grew saddened again. “And there’s another thing…”

“What?” asked Mike. Everyone else listened intently, except for Rigley, who knew what was coming next.

“On our last mission…” Ligray started. “We were going to awaken that Light Stone, remember? Mr. Chill also said that if it was awakened, it would show everyone the truth, and even help us get our memories back. Remember?”

Amy and Chikorita froze. Mike chuckled and said, “Yeah…oh well, with Kyurem here, that’s water under the bridge, right?”

“Not just that…” This time, it was Rigley who continued the explanation. “When our Light Stone froze…Mr. Chill, he…he got mad at us. He said these horrible, horrible things…”

Ligray explained, “He said that you must’ve been lying when you said we were one of the best Rescuers ever here, and that we never failed you. He also told us we were useless and a failure to the Rescuers’ guild, and to never help him again.”

“He might’ve said that he was sorry, but…but…!” At this, the Elgyem siblings completely broke down, even to the point that their levitation completely ceased to work, and they just collapsed on the wooden floor. Team Pecha, the Rejeckts, and Mike were all stunned in silent horror. Team Pecha because they didn’t know how badly their guild’s success hurt their friends, Mike because he had no idea Chill said such horrible things about him, and the Rejeckts because of the freakiness all around.

“And now he’s…” Ligray hiccupped. “If only we were there, maybe we could’ve stopped…” She couldn’t finish the sentence. “And now you’re all alone…”

“Hey…guys. Guys.” Mike walked up to them. “It’s okay. It wasn’t your fault. You couldn’t have known all that.”

“If there’s anything we can do…” Ligray stopped. She suddenly had an idea. “Wait! Maybe I could help you out! Become the co-leader. Rigley, too. We could help you run this guild. Right, Rigley?”

“Yeah, yeah! Please let us help!”

Mike’s eyes widened. “Guys, I’m okay! Thanks for the offer, honestly, but it wouldn’t be fair to you. It wouldn’t be fair to ANYONE here. And you’re putting too much blame on yourselves. So please…” He helped them float back up. “Just keep being good members like you’ve always been. And maybe I can help you write an apology letter to Chill, if you really want to. I’m sure he’d like that.”

“You—you really mean that?” asked Ligray.

“Of course! And just wait and see. I’m sure he’ll forgive you guys.”

Chikorita stepped forward. “I can help write, too.”

“Me too!” Even Lizzard and Renegade volunteered. They wanted to apologize to Chill just as much as to Mike.

“All right! Now let’s get started!” said Mike.

Oh, okay.

Yeah, I actually envisioned them being in the room instead of being stuck in the doorway like that, but whatever. The art is still good, I think.

Yeah, when you really look at things from their perspective...it's really sad. They never fail Mike, yet the one mission they went on with Chill, they failed, and now Chill's gone...

I am disappointed the rescuers lost Chill. I'm hoping that if he really doesn't come back, then that Ampharos, um... Fenel was it? Will step in and help Mike.
