Part 8: Your Dad is a WHAT?

“Ooooww…”

Bisharp rubbed his back, having landed on the ground pretty hard. But since he was pretty much flung around like that a lot back at Merlot’s castle, he was already used to such treatment, and recovered quickly. He looked around to find that he had landed in the middle of Tao Woods, and not just that, but that he had landed rather close to the cave he was trying to find all day. The cave where he and his mom used to live, and the one that he planned on his team to move into since Team Pecha had “forgotten” to rebuild the Pecha Berry House. That was the good news.

The bad news was…that someone was already inside it.

As soon as he had stepped into the cave’s entrance, a loud female voice shouted, “WHO GOES THERE!?” But it wasn’t any ordinary voice. It was a voice that Bisharp could never forget even if he tried. It was a voice he hadn’t heard from in a very long time.

“Mom!?”

At that very second, a blade arm slashed at his chest and knocked him down to the ground. Luckily, his armor was thick enough to prevent the blade from doing much damage. An unusually sharp foot pinned him to the ground, and the same blade got as close as his throat before it stopped in place, its owner realizing who the intruder was.

“…Bisharp?”

The voice belonged to a female Bisharp whose armor appeared lighter and more streamlined than usual. Her face was more rounded, her legs were longer, and stepping on Bisharp’s chest was apparently a set of wheels installed into her feet. Bisharp would recognize her anywhere just by sight alone.

“Mom? What are you doing here? When did you get back?”

She helped him stand up. “Oh, I’m so sorry I almost smashed you! I should’ve realized it was you! Too bad I didn’t get to see you evolve, but hey! I’m still proud of you, all the same. As for me, I came back here not too long ago because, after all this time…I finally found him!”

“Him? Found who?”

At that moment, a Beheeyem floated out of the cave, looking worried. “Jody, what’s going on?”

Jody gestured to the Beheeyem, saying, “Rallen, look look look!” She then turned to her son and explained, “Bisharp…this is your father!”

The two guys just froze in place, pointing at each other, though Bisharp was even more in shock than this Beheeyem called Rallen was. They remained like that for several tense seconds.

Then Rallen whispered tentatively, “Son…?”

And with that, Bisharp made a break for it.

“Bisharp!” shouted Jody. “I said I was sorry that I nearly smashed—”

“After him!” shouted Rallen. “He can’t go too far!”

Bisharp never intended on going too far, though. He only wanted to get far enough to find Amy and Rigley. And sure enough, there they were, at the edge of the woods, in midair, about to fly back to the UFO. They were both riding on Darren’s back. Bisharp ran as close as he could to them, took a deep breath and shouted, “AMY! RIGLEY!”

It was loud enough for them to hear, and they turned around, but neither of them were happy to see him. Amy was upset at him for flinging Rigley at her, and Rigley knew that he’d never take Bisharp’s advice again. So they turned back around and prepared to head for home, as usual.

“No, wait, it’s an emergency!” Bisharp shouted in desperation, realizing that they were both planning on ignoring him. “Can anyone PLEASE tell me why my dad is an alien all of a sudden!?”

This was enough to get them to stop in place and temporarily forget about being mad at him. “Your dad is a WHAT!?” shouted Amy.

Rigley would have said something too, but just then, he saw what Bisharp was talking about: A Beheeyem was chasing after the poor guy. But not just any ordinary Beheeyem. Rigley recognized this guy from the very first picture in the Official Planet Paion Military Hall of Fame.

He teleported off of Darren’s back and appeared right in front of the guy, shouting, “Rallen!? Is that you!?”

“Wha…?” was all Rallen could utter.

That was enough to get Bisharp to stop in place. “You KNOW him!?”

“Not in person, but this guy was really famous! He was the one who completed the military training program in record time, and he evolved early! My sister always said she wanted to get better than him one day! He is YOUR dad?”

“Oh my gosh, you’re so lucky!” raved Amy.

The Beeheeyem replied, “Ah, that’s all true, kid, but it looks like you haven’t heard of how I became UN-famous. Not like that really matters, anyway. I love Jody too much to care about that…” He then posed and added, “…like a boss.”

“Oh hey, are these your friends?” asked Jody, who had just roller-bladed onto the scene before coming to a screeching halt. “Let me get this straight, Bisharp. You know this Elgyem, Jigglypuff, and probably Golurk, and this Elgyem knows my husband…and that’s all?”

“That appears to be correct,” said Darren, always making sure to scan new people properly before engaging in conversation with them. “In addition, DNA scans indicate a 97.5% probability that you, Jody the Bisharp, and you, Rallen the Beheeyem, are—”

“97.5 PERCENT!?” shouted Bisharp, already knowing what Darren was going to say. Shortly afterward, the poor guy fainted, leaving Rallen and Jody to catch him and try to revive him.

---------------

Luckily, it didn’t take long for Bisharp to wake up, and before he knew it, he was helping to lead Rigley, Amy, and Darren to the cave along with Rallen and Jody, asking Rallen lots of questions along the way. All of them were curious to ask more about Bisharp’s parents. Amy, however, was more amazed at what looked like enhancements to Jody’s feet, which seemed to allow her to travel much faster than ordinary Bisharps. It looked like she had to perform a complex leg movement to use the wheels properly, and Amy thought that she’d never be able to do something like that, ever. Even when Darren explained that it would actually be easier for Amy due to her much lower center of gravity, she still wasn’t completely sure, as the wheels were made of pure sharp steel. She wasn’t going to take any chances stabbing her feet with those things.

At the same time, Rigley couldn’t stop asking Rallen questions. “Hey Rallen! Why didn’t you ever go back to those spying missions? They said you did such a good job on information gathering and everything!”

“Kid—I mean, Rigley, was it? Call me Mr. Rallen. I didn’t get married for nothing.” He winked. “Besides, Jody and I will be getting to that story soon. What I’m a little more interested in is how you got to be friends with my son…” Again, with the pose. “…like a boss.”

By the time they got to the cave, the sun was already setting, and Amy and Rigley had filled Jody and Rallen in on all the important details on how they met Bisharp. Rigley was especially excited to hear all about how Rallen managed to fall in love with a Dark/Steel-type—someone other than an Elgyem or a Beheeyem!—in the first place, and though Amy’s head was already spinning from the fact that she had met TWO sets of important parents in one day, she looked forward to hearing Rallen and Jody’s story, if only to momentarily take her mind off of her anxiety over Chikorita.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

>>> BEGINNING<<<

I'm participating in #PMD-Explorers ' Event 6: Temporal Terraforming with all three of my teams:

Team Pecha, the Merchants
Team Elgyem, the Lone Rescuer and
Team Nighty Knights, the Rogues

Part 8 of 10. Sure enough, when Bisharp tries to get back to his old cave, he finds that his mother is back from her "around the world trip", and not only that, but there's also Beheeyem that claims to be his father! When he asks Rigley and Amy why in the world he suddenly has an "alien" for a father, they are interested and also want to hear details. In fact, Rigley actually knows of this Beheeyem!

I'm so glad I finally got to introduce Jody and Rallen. It seems kind of weird introducing them this way when I've got an uber-long comic planned out for the origin story they are about to tell here (no, I can't start on it now, unfortunately). But hey, their first appearance has to be somewhere. I suppose I could have made Jody's long-lost husband be anyone from the same egg group as her (the easiest way out would be to have him be another Bisharp), but choosing to have him be a Beheeyem specifically (from Planet Paion) allowed me to make their origin story go way beyond any other parental origin story I've ever done before.

In her younger days, Jody likeed using destruction verbs like "smash", "slam", "smite", "kill", "sack", "pillage", "maim", "destroy", etc. a lot, while Rallen almost always added "Like a boss" to the end of his sentences, especially right after he did something cool. As adults, both of them have let up on those speech patterns a lot, but they still sometimes use them.

Jody the Bisharp and Rallen the Beheeyem are personal NPCs belonging to me.

baww everyone is meeting their family, it kind of makes sense for them to have somewhere to go.

I guess Tao Village was rebuilt but not the estates huh? 'cuz if so I might have a problem where to place my team now

The estates? You mean the tenement houses? They're already built, if you want Team Nuttzy to live there. It's just that all three of my teams have found other places they'd rather live.

Hmm...now that you mention it, given the sheer amount of families in this story, does "Family Reunions" sound like an appropriate title, or is that too lame? After all, there's still Ralts' family to introduce...

Oh I was just wondering since in the new version of Tao Village I didn't see them so I was kind of stumped.

Hmm... maybe a little, but you are on the right track. If you feel you need to change it you can try "The Family name", "The family treasures" or simply "Digging up her roots"... I don't really know.

Oh, I got it! "Roots!"

Yeah, so that's also the name of a documentary. I think it could still work here, though.

With all of the "like a boss" quotes, it's no wonder that Rallen is Bisharp's dad.

It's ironic that you say that since Bisharp never actually got to meet his dad until now. I always assumed that Bisharp got his big fat ego from his mom spoiling him rotten as a kid (since he was her only son).

That said, these guys would make for a great "Like father, like son" picture.

Yeah, I never really bothered to think about it. I guess I just assumed it to be a defense mechanism against some childhood trauma. (I'VE BEEN PLAYING PSYCHONAUTS. CAN YOU TELL???)

EXACTLY.

Rallen is awesome. I really love how fun your NPCs are.

Probably because I'm lately getting better at creating fun characters. It's most evident in these new NPCs, of course, but I'm doing my best to make my teams' characters just as interesting (like Darren).

That is one of the signature traits that makes Jody...Jody. (A local Heatmor blacksmith customized those for her.) Thanks to Rallen's advice, she was the one who originally pioneered the innovation called "Bisharps can have high Speed too."

Rallen: NO! It only works when I say, "like a boss"! It gets pointless if EVERYONE says, "like a boss."

Yeah, Rallen also has a pretty big ego...or at least, had.
