Description My favorite Mario series overall.
Unfortunately, I don't own a physical copy of the N64 original, but I do own it on Wii Virtual Console.
This series holds a special place in my heart for a multitude of reasons:

Paper Mario: Magical and charming experience, holds up well to this day.

The Thousand Year Door: Cherished sequel that improves upon its predecessor in a variety of ways.

Super: While low on the gameplay side, makes up for it with a deep plot, lovable characters, and trying something new with the series. Also my introduction to the series.

Sticker Star: Enjoyed it more as an experiment, but I understand why people strongly dislike it. Gimmicky gameplay, nonexistent story, and an unlikeable companion... good music though.

Color Splash: More infuriating gameplay-wise and somehow more tedious due to an even more flawed battle system which makes it unnecessarily difficulty. Yet makes up for it with fun writing, awesome level scenarios, and improved music.

The Origami King: Best installment in years, less tedious battle system, gameplay is a slow return to form, fun characters despite restrictive design decisions, and an OUTSTANDING soundtrack.

(I also own Paper Jam, but that's more of a M&L installment, and despite being a disappointing crossover, gameplay and music was still solid).

To those looking for a more traditional styled experience based on the earlier installments, I strongly recommend "Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling." An amazing indie game that pays tribute to this series during its prime.
