Description
(Copied from the previous submission: fav.me/d75p4vn )This submission is something very, very different from what I normally do. It is a rather nonsensical crossover between two of my favorite fictional franchises: the classic movie era of "Star Trek," and the science fiction anime/manga franchise "Arpeggio of Blue Steel" or "Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio." However, it's something I essentially did just for fun, and it does not have any place in either the "Trek" or AHNA canons.
Therefore: if you want to understand what is going on, then I demand that you read the entire description before asking me any questions. Otherwise you won't get it, and as a medical student, I don't have the time to answer the same question fifty thousand times. Any replies to this submission that say something like "what show is this" or "what is this" will be ignored because it'll be clear to me that you can't follow my directions.
Now that I've made myself clear:
"Arpeggio of Blue Steel" is an interesting series created by Ark Performance that focuses on naval warfare and robotics, with more than a passing nod to World War II navy enthusiasts (like me). In this series, sea levels have risen spectacularly, and complicating matters, a mysterious fleet of sentient warships calling themselves the Fleet of Fog have begun to attack humanity, blockading all nations, cutting every trade route and isolating mankind. These ships are fully self-aware, and on the outside, they look like sunken World War II vessels with glowing symbols (think the "tattoos" that Starscream put on his F-22 jet mode during the 2nd and 3rd "Transformers" films). But on the inside, they are nothing like WW2 ships. With bodies created from nanomaterials, these "living ships" conceal immensely advanced weapons and defenses, as well as computer capabilities beyond anything mankind has ever known. Furthermore, some of the larger ones have another special ability: they can manifest Mental Models, humanoid avatars (kind of like the human-form Cylons from the "Battlestar Galactica" reboot) that were ostensibly generated to allow the ships to better understand their human foes.
Anyway, with that aside, I personally find the plot of "Arpeggio of Blue Steel" to be a bit hard to explain, but I do owe you all some kind of explanation. So I'll back off here and let these great websites do the explaining for me:

Now that I've made that clear (for those who haven't seen the first sketch), I'll explain what this one is meant to be.
This submission is essentially a continuation of the one that came before it. In the previous series of sketches, I worked out "Wrath of Khan"-style variant badge designs to represent eight of the sentient Fleet of Fog warships, equipped with humanoid Mental Model avatars, from the manga/anime franchise "Arpeggio of Blue Steel." However, we have seen the individual Fog symbols of several other ships in the Fleet of Fog as well, so I decided to continue what I had done previously and design a few new badges for those other ships, bringing the total number of Fog/TWOK badge designs I've created up to twelve.
The major difference with this batch lies in what I did with the backing portion - the elongated part of the badge located behind and to the sides of the central Delta Shield and ring. In the previous set of designs, I had been very, very careful not to alter Robert Fletcher's original TWOK chest badge configuration *too* much out of my previously-described concern over creating a gaudy or "over-designed" configuration for a badge design that was already almost too fancy for Star Fleet to begin with. However, this time, I decided that I probably didn't need to be that conservative and allowed myself to take more liberties with the badge backings.
For example, the rightmost new design was done for the Yamato-class super battleship HIJMS Yamato, which acts as Supreme Flagship of the Fleet of Fog - or, at least, its oriental fleet units. Because of the elegant personality of Yamato's Mental Model and the vessel's position as a Supreme Flagship, I decided that she would probably create/issue a much fancier badge design than her subordinates and drew her badge accordingly. I actually did something rather interesting with Yamato's: I took the traditional TWOK chest badge "roundel" design, shrank it, and then drew a fancy, somewhat old-fashioned "frame" design around it to create Yamato's unique badge backing.
The ships represented this time are:
Yamato-Class Super Battleship: HIJMS Yamato
Nagato-Class Battleship: HIJMS Nagato
Myoko-Class Heavy Cruiser: HIJMS Ashigara
Type-XXI German Submarine: U-2501
The upper part of this particular submission is devoted to something else entirely. To do some further studies, I took three badges in particular - those designed for Heavy Cruiser Maya and fast battleships Haruna & Kirishima - and elaborated on them a bit. First, I worked out finalized color schemes for these badges. The original TWOK chest badge, and replicas of the badge design (with varying degrees of accuracy and inaccuracy), often had tones of gold, ivory/off-white and maybe a little silver, as you can see here:
www.yourprops.com/norm-46c4c0e…
www.utopiabase.com/media/catal…
However, in "Arpeggio of Blue Steel," Fog warships are strongly associated with a particular color and every ship seems to have her own color - and a lot of those colors don't work well with bright metallic gold. Therefore, I changed the Delta Shield and Ring portions to a basic silver/metallic gray color scheme and then "played up" the individual ship colors by using differing shades of pink (Maya), green (Kirishima) and yellow/gold (Haruna) to create the color schemes of these particular badges, emphasizing the badges' connections to their particular ships.
Finally, above the three colorized badges (which haven't been drawn with very good proportions, I'll admit; their proportions should be more like the ones they had in my previous drawing), I added diagrams of the "roundel" backing portions of those three designs without the Delta Shields and Rings to give a better picture of what the roundels look like by themselves.
It should be noted that originally, on the "Wrath of Khan" uniform, that "roundel" section was going to be the chest badge itself; the Delta Shield and Ring would only have appeared on an officer's belt. Costume designer Robert Fletcher had to be talked out of it by the film staff, who insisted that the Delta Shield *had* to be on the left breast no matter what, and therefore, the Delta Shield/Ring insignia that had debuted in "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" on Admiral Kirk's uniform would ultimately appear twice - on the chest and the belt buckle - of the "Wrath of Khan" version as Fletcher took the Delta Shield/Ring and added the details on top of the already-established "roundel" portion to create the final TWOK chest badge.

Very nice. Like what you did for Haruna's badge

Very nice crossover.
My one friend says that the Mental Models are a lot like Holodeck in ways too.

Actually, the J.J. Abrams version of "Star Trek" has done something very similar to a Mental Model already. He is only briefly glimpsed in "Into Darkness," but he gets a full feature story in the comic books. He's called Science Officer 0718.
