Nicole rang her hands together with a bit more fervor, twisting her fingers around one another as she sought for the right words. She'd rehersed this on her own- spent a dutiful amount of time carefully crafting her words and sentences with the utmost concern for politeness and clarity. She felt confident enough, but that alone wasn't satisfactory for her- thus concluding that she needed outside approval. Sally had assured her it was fine, and Sir Charles had offered a few words of advice as to the Council's expectations, and Nicole had adjusted accordingly. And now, rehearsing a final time, she wasn't sure if it was her nerves jumbling her thoughts, or the warm, tingling, distracted feeling she was getting from the quiet, adoring green optics staring at her that were making her words trip out of her mouth.

It was times like these when she felt a prominent love-hate relationship with her all-too-real emotions. Though, emphasis fell more on 'love' than the latter.

Despite her obvious fumbles in speech and demeanor- which happened around Shard much too often, she internally grumbled- her dutiful other half didn't seem to notice, resting his chin on his interlocked hands and lightly tapping his round metal fingers against each other as he sat. He just looked at her, the lazy, passive look on his face too sweet and kind and perfect for the AI to not quietly and discretely save. Another rare gem for her already expanding archive of silly clips, loving exchanges and soft, genuine smiles starring the jet black machine.

Aside from his otherwise relaxed body language, as Nicole pushed on with her report, he nodded silently and approvingly in all the right areas. He 'hmm'd' thoughtfully a time or two, causing the lynx to hesitate- to wait patiently for any hint of a concern or suggestion- but none came and he ushered her on until she was finally able to conclude. Much longer than the speech had taken her the first run through with Sally, Nicole compared, but frankly, she couldn't find herself too upset. Shard was a busy mech, much like Nicole found herself these days. Swarmed with work and his new duties as not only a Secret Freedom staple, but the city's sidekick guardian and newest hot-shot, their time apart had become more drastic the more he'd become integrated into the world that Nicole had known prior to him. The world that suddenly seemed so much brighter to her with him in it, despite their absences. So the opportunity to simply sit with him and be by him, to bask in the comforting atmosphere that came along with the gentle adoration that held their relationship together was welcome to her, even if it was still involving work.

"So... You...don't think it's too much?" She finally asked, placing her restless hands in her lap. The Robian hummed softly, the careful push of air from his internal vents just barely triggering Nicole's heat sensors, "Nicole, I could listen to you talk all day. If it were just me, that wouldn't have been nearly enough."

"And by Chaos do I love when you talk numbers." The sly comment was accompanied by a gentle but very intentional purr of the Robian's engine.

The lynx felt her tongue get stuck in her throat, her face grow warm and her posture grow a touch tenser. A wry, flattered smile tempted its way to her face and though she tried to suppress it, a soft giggle managed its way out anyway.

"Shard, the compliments are entirely unnecessary but wholly effective- and they don't help me at all with my report."

Style experimenting. Shard is really hard to anthro-ize, while Nicole is super easy. It's lways a fun experiment to try and make them look consistent and honestly

Headcanon:
Nicole goes to her friends when she has to give reports to the council about the city and its general statistics and maintenance and things. Ever since her exile she's- understandably- been a bit on edge and likes to check and make sure that what she plans to say sounds passive but logical.
Shard is
probably the worst person that she could go to for this kind of thing, given that sophisticated speaking patterns are not his strong suit and the fact that he spends nearly the entire time just making doe-eyes at her. He never has much meaningful to say- rather choosing to listen, knowing that it helps calm her nerves- he just loves listening to her talk.
