Description     Silannah, a twelve thousand year old soldier, was charged with taking Ælithil from a spoiled child with no drive, to a warrior. It was time for him to stop lounging in taverns and learn to defend himself.

After dragging her nephew off to Winterspring, she forced him to strip down to his skivvies in the snow and fight. His lack of training and skill became very apparent as they sparred in the snow.

     Excerpt that inspired this piece:

“On your feet, bandu! Don’t make me kick you while you’re down.” Fear gave Ælithil surge of strength, and he lurched to his feet. He tried to copy her stance, raising his own fists. Seeing it, she smirked and shook her, saying, “Well, that’s just pathetic.” Then she was on him again. A flurry of kicks and punches had him reeling immediately. She was faster than he would have believed. Stronger too. He tried to keep his guard up, but he could barely see her through the whirling snow and she always found a way through. His defense was useless, and his offense simply did not exist. Soon he was staggering backwards, holding his arms in front of his face, too frightened and overwhelmed to do more. Seeing him back down so quickly sent Silannah into a rage. She unleashed a trio of body blows underneath his guard, then followed that with a punishing kick that hit his right arm with the force of a hammer. He heard the crack of abused bone before he felt anything. Like a felled oak, he toppled into the snow, shrieking and curling into the fetal position as the pain of the broken arm hit him. Silannah, looking disgusted, hauled him onto her shoulders and carried him inside.

Hello everyone! Today we are going to take a look at an unusual piece - an illustration I was commissioned to paint for TindomielSilverthorn and Forosuul of a wonderful story written by Forosuul , that is called Beat into shape. The concept of two pale skinned and silver haired elves fighting nearly naked in the frozen, snowy conditions of Winterspring was quite a challenge but the more I got into it, the more I enjoyed it. I hope you enjoy the final result as well .

And thank you for commissioning me, it was a pleasure working with you

Okay, show of hands... who else would think this scene would be nothing short of iconic if it were to be adapted into a movie/TV show, particularly if there was blood when things got really brutal

After reading the story, the entire episode would be most graphic
and brutal for sure

It definitely would. Luckily Silannah has bandages and salves to spare.

Wow this seems so complex, it must have taken a lot of time! It’s great to see how well you can pull off such a dynamic scene!

Thank you! I'm glad you like it. Yes, it took a fair amount of time and
getting the dynamic scene working in a pleasing way was a challenge, but
a welcome one

That is exactly what Silannah was trying to get through to him. The consequences of failure are far too dire.

All done on Wordpress with a lot of custom coding. He wanted to really push things design-wise.

It’s a good base from what I understand. It’s easy to add stories and images to, which is great for me because I don’t know the coding tricks.

I love how mostly everything on this piece is white and grey, with soft spots of other hues here and there. The dynamism is also amazing, you made a great job with the poses and the flying snow bits that add even more dynamism to the piece.

Thank you Leila! I'm glad that you approve of this piece. It was
new for me in several ways, but I liked working on the dynamic
poses .

LeilaAscariz In reply to Galder [2018-08-11 11:07:32 +0000 UTC]

It has my seal of approval:

And dynamic poses are harder, but they create much better illustrations. It's so hard to find artists who can manage dynamic poses and backgrounds.

Thank you Laura! Yes, unusual as it may be, a fighting scene
I have studied 'a bit' of kickbox to get a feel for it. Quite interesting.

That arm is surely sore now,it will get numb in no time and the next kick is going straight to his face.....
Very well done!

Galder In reply to grey-phantom [2018-08-10 09:08:16 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! According to the story, that arm is going to know
much more pain than it should have in a second or two

themachinewithasoul [2018-08-10 01:57:33 +0000 UTC]

I’m not harping on this piece, but I cringe at the thought of him blocking that kick, probably breaking his own arm

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

TindomielSilverthorn In reply to themachinewithasoul [2018-08-10 10:39:28 +0000 UTC]

I’m so glad the Galder captured this moment in the story so well. The fact that you cringed speaks volumes for his skills! Ælithil had know idea what he was doing and Silannah didn’t work him up to it.
