Description Excalibur, Caliburnus, Caledfwlch, Caladbolg… the Shining Steel or the Indestructible, the sword of king Arthr.
An illustration inspired by the book Historia Regum Britanniae ("History of the Kings of Britain") by Geoffrey of Monmouth.
China ink, pencil and waterclours
The colors are too dark… but my mood influenced my choices. Other flaws I don’t like are the position and proportion of the man and the rock in front… but I’m too lazy to redone the whole draw.
I wanted to give the impression, that the man abandoned everything for the quest of the sword and to reach his fate...
Thus, any painful renounce may turn to open new possibility... a new future
I think everyone knows this legendary sword. However, the epic poems are full of other, less known, magical swords…
-Caladbolg is the sword of Fergus mac Róich from the Ulster Cycle of Irish mythology.
-Gramr or Balmung or Nothung is the sword used by Sigfrid to kill Fáfnir the dragon in the Völsungasaga and Nibelungenlied.
- Hrunting is a sword given to Beowulf by Unferth and used in battle against Grendel's Mother.
-Nægling is an other sword used by Beowulf. It may correspond to Nagelring, a sword from the Vilkina saga. It is possibly the sword of Hrethel, which Hygelac gave to Beowulf.
-Anglachel ( in Sindarin: Iron of the Flaming Star). A sword forged by Eöl the Dark Elf, given to Thingol of Doriath, and later wielded by Beleg Strongbow and ultimately- Anglachel was reforged as Gurthang and used by Túrin to kill Glaurung, the Father of Dragons. Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien

I enjoy the colors and how dark it is. The contrast is what pulled me in. Between that dark/light play off each other and the way your framed the castle/sky I think you have something really nice here. Great positioning of the sword on the page, you definitely planned this out well.

Good work deserves to be talked about, and I think just telling you its awesome does not do any justice to you or your work. keep it up

troppo gentile... come al solito!
grazie mille!
oggi mi sono accorto di una sorta di errore... forse dovrei fare continuare l'ombra della spada oltre la roccia fino a disegnare, in primo piano, la croce dell'elsa. Proverò su una copia
