that's a good question! i'm just gonna say that she couldn't see out of that eye from the beginning because it wouldn't make sense for her to see out of it. the main damage from the attack is the cracks in the gem in this au instead of her eyesight, i guess? hmm...

sorry for flinging so many questions at you, but do the cats have their own weapons (for hunting and fighting) in this au? if that's the case, then brightheart's gem being cracked would definitely hinder her ability to perform duties as a warrior, and would be a lot bigger than just being cracked! : 0

no problem, omg... it's lame but i just assumed that cats didn't have weapons in this au, per se...? their claws are made of their gemstone, at least! i would love for them to have weapons but that would be kind of difficult unless they were more anthro so idk

aaaa ive kind of headcanoned that maybe instead of weapons, their gem kind of glows (hahha magical girls??) and in that state, they can enhace their skills, though it has limit and puts strain on them. since most kittypets have no reason to use their gems, kind of like what not exercising does to your body, their gems just kind of wither away and become useless. and kits need to wait for six months before training to become apprentices because the strain that comes from using your gem is too much to handle for kits. so having a cracked (and therefore "defective") gem meant that brightheart had a hard time with keeping up with keeping up with the other apprentices.

but im thinking that the "glow" in the gems is actually from the energy that's generated by the gem, so having a cracked gem basically means that the energy leaks out instead of being concentrated in the gem and spread throughout the body?
so basically "shes going to be no stronger than a kittypet" but she figures out a way to use energy both internally and externally and she is strong and powerful and beautiful.
