Description
Somewhere along the line I decided to make a game based on the popular "Humpty Dumpty" nursery rhyme. Don't laugh, but it took me 5 days to make this game, start to finish, including the art. 5 days ago, nothing. Today, game!Even though this is based on a nursery rhyme, the frantic pace of this game might make younger children cry. You have been warned.
UPDATE: Added a bit of shading to the falling objects to make it easier to recognize them. Also, compressed the soundtrack to make the game load a little faster.

It's so cute, plus you used Sanon in D as your BGM, which I rather enjoyed! 10/10 best game ever. (I've just recently finished watching several hours of PewDiePie videos, pardon the reference.)

I would hope so - it'sΒ Pachelbel's Canon in D.

I also just realized that I was supposed to dodge the debris. For a moment, I thought Humpty was supposed to bounce away the stuff that gets over him. Silly me.

It was fun and silly. An enjoyable time-waster. I particularly liked your music choice. Cannon in D is always solid background music for anything based on a classic.

Pachebel's cannon as flash game music. Nice. The graphics are very nice. The shading gives it a sort of lush feel.
Gameplay has problems though. The objects fall too fast. The object rate goes up too fast too.
The collision around humpty needs to be much better. The game is make the egg avoid the falling things. However, sometimes the egg avoids the falling things and it still gets damaged. If the player can see a gap that Humpty will fit through then he should go through, otherwise what's the use of trying to play the game?
People become frustrated if you give them a game that dosen't bahave properly. It would be better to make Humpty the actual shape of what gets hit, even if that not an egg shape.
The movement of Humpty lags behind your mouse. So even if you move the mouse out of the way, Humpty gets hit. That wouldn't be an issue if things didn't fall quite so fast.

Believe it or not, the number of falling objects is constant. There are never more than four on the screen at a time.
The hit test and collision is a particular thorn in my side. Reducing the area of the hit only means that the objects get closer - I have been unable to find a good solution for reducing "repeat" hits, try as I might. I know a solution is out there, but it's currently beyond my meagre programming skills.
All in all, this has been a "proof of concept." Make the game quickly and get it out there, warts and all. Then take what I've learned to make my next effort better.

I didn't really notice the number of objects was constant. Makes sense. I was thinking of the rate, the amount of time each set of objects appearing. I guess thats tied to the speed, a new set appears when the last set is offscreen?
It's harder to make fun games than people think. Even if you have a programmer and an artist. Just getting nice graphics to move and collide dosen't make its fun.
The repeat hits is a tricky problem in many games. Colliding two moving things accurately is complex. The bullet and metal plate problem. The bullet moves so fast that it can be on the other side of the plate in one step without touching it. If the metal plate is moving out of the way collision is less predictable.
This is a bit more fun if you're trying to hit the falling objects. As though you're trying to collect them.

I know what I want it to do, but that's a far cry from getting the code to cooperate. Up til now I've sent my designs over to artists and engineers to make it happen. But I've got a backlog of designs and no staff (or income) so I'm experimenting until I can get it right.
I think I have a good idea on enemy management that should not only improve the pacing but eliminate the multiple hit problems.
I still want to keep it simple. I want to make sure I have a solid handle on this before I introduce more complex gameplay concepts.
And yes, one of those is a collection game

Good luck with your experiments. I hope it leads to an income soon.

I'll look into it, but I'm afrid my expertise is in art and animation, not coding. I was tearing my hair out trying to get the sprites to appear in the right place!

place a invisible box inside him and set the hit test to the box instead of humpty.
