Sorry if this comic is really cringey. >.<' I'm still practicing doing comics.This was also my side reaction to Bayonetts's reveal. Don't get me wrong, I'm hyped for Bayonetta too, but looks like Shantae's chance may not come for a years to come... possibly never unfortunately, but we can all still dream!
In the mean time, bring on Half-Genie Hero!

There's actually few teases for the idea of Shantae appearing in Ultimate in the Jammies Mode DLC that Half Genie Hero got. While it could be just as an Assist Trophy (Because Shovel Knight got the same treatment) I'm a little hopeful because Shantae is apparently more popular in Japan then not only over here, but also more popular then Shovel knight is.

Having a better understanding of how Sakurai chooses his characters, I feel like if there was going to be one Indie character to represent the Indie scene, it would be Quote (Cave Story). And even that is a pretty much 1% chance.

Maybe we might get three or four, Shovel knigt, Shantae, Quote, anyone from undertale? (No, Frisk or Chara are not possable, but Sans or Papyrus I could so see.)

Again, I severely doubt it. A main thing about Sakurai's choices I realise are that they're very Japanese-focused so things don't get complex. Quote is the only one of the mentioned that is Japanese originally.

This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. I’m not very familiar the games, but only because I don’t play video games on a regular basis anymore. If I did, I’m sure they would be some of my favorites. I’ve played enough of them in stores that I can definitely say that Shantae is a cool character and one of my all-time favorite genies. I had no idea she was even being considered for Super Smash Bros. I think that’s really cool.
The atmosphere in this is amazing. I feel sucked right into the comic. To be honest, I wouldn’t feel really depressed at Shantae not getting chosen if it weren’t for one thing. She lost to Bayonetta? That is horrible! Bayonetta is one of those oversexualized characters that I just hate. Shantae deserved to beat her because she is a more respectable character. Shantae may look sexy, but I think her sex appeal is perfectly tasteful. I wouldn’t be embarrassed at playing her games in front of other people, or watching anything with the level of fanservice present in them. Anime would be so much better if they had as much restraint as the developers of the Shantae games. Bayonetta represents what I hate the most (oversexualized women), and while I will never play as her if I ever got the game I must confess that I would greatly enjoy beating her up. It might prove quite therapeutic.
This is a truly amazing comic, well worth a favorite.

I honestly don't think Shantae was ever considered to be in Smash, haha.
It's just that I think it was one of the characters many people wanted. Not like a Top 5... I think, but you know. And hey, who wouldn't love an Indie represented character? And Shantae seemed to be the best choice.
I really do love Bayonetta. I've never played her games, but I'm well aware of her character and I like that she knows she's so sexy and it works with her personality. So I have no objections to her.
Keep in mind I'm one of those people who dislikes fan service to be a selling point of a character.
I don't mind her in Smash. What I do mind is the fact I think she's too powerful. It's like Rosalina in a sense where I love the character, but hate them in Smash.

Okay. I just thought it was based on one of the official candidates.
I understand, but Bayonetta is just too much for me personally. I’m not saying people who enjoy that much fanservice are bad, it’s just not for me and I wish that it wasn’t so commonplace especially in anime. I’ve been trying to get into anime for a long time, and while I’ve watched some really great series in the past year with more waiting to be tried (as I have the DVDs in my collection) it can be very hard finding good ones without any nudity in them. I had to scratch over a dozen titles off my list because they have nudity in them. I admittedly have no problem with and even enjoy the milder forms of fanservice (underwear and bikinis, though they can be too skimpy for me) since I have nothing against the male equivalent for them. It just annoys me that fanservice for women doesn’t go nearly as far as fanservice for men goes, and I wish that those using this to appeal to guys would show some restraint.
Again, no disrespect to the people who like a lot of fanservice. I am simply not one of them.
You totally deserve them. If this comic can touch someone who isn’t that familiar with the character, imagine what it must have done for her true fans.

I don't know the official candidates. Take a look at the Direct when they revealed Bayonetta and there wasn't a Top 5 countdown (or something) in sight. Which I thought was extremely odd. Anything to build up suspense.
I, like a few others, think that the Ballot was just a distraction and they were going to do Bayonetta regardless.
A number of reasons, but the best reasons I think this is because one, Bayonetta 1 & 2 was just released on the Wii U at the time and therefore, they had the assets to her.
Two, I didn't hear about Bayonetta at all when people voted.
Three, it seemed too quick of a completion. I know Smash was technically complete by then (barring the bug fixes and patches), but don't forget characters take a long time to complete.
Again, not a super big issue to me since I glad about Bayo's inclusion at all. Sakurai Magic.
Fan service is usually going to in every kind of media like this. Even the children's shows that only the older crowd will get.
In Bayo's case, it's just a focus. Kinda like Kill la Kill... maybe on a slightly lesser scale.
Honestly, I don't watch anime as much as some may think. I'm a gamer first and foremost after all, but I don't actively look for fan service, though I do like a bit of it admittedly. If it's in, it's in, basically.
Doing fan service on females is just by default much easier though because... oppai, I suppose. I guess as a male, I don't see the fan service on males, so that might be a contributing factor. Maybe females or gays can see it a bit better. No idea.
I think this comic though is one of my most popular pieces I've done on my account though.
But anyway, I'm not taking any requests or commissions at the moment. Actually, I'm still handling my current batch of commissions.

It is really disappoint that Smash didn't add her, but what if new smash might be on NX and Shantae might have a chance in SSB5? Only we have that answer in the future.
