I have actually been meaning to draw Dedf1sh for a while now for I kinda enjoyed her mystery from Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion mode, but since then, we've actually got new things where she's participating. Namely, the recent Side Order trailer where Dedf1sh (aka Acht) is shown to assisting us.

In the mean time, I'd like to discuss my own guesses as to what might be going on in 'Side Order' including our little octo friend here. This is mainly lore curiosity because the gameplay... it looks fun, but the lore is what I'm interested in here.

So, what I think is happening is that Marina created this digital world for reasons I can't guess yet, but I suppose it could be to get to the bottom of this cloning mystery regarding Octolings, that I think has been present since the first game? Maybe? I mean the fact Agent 8 in S2 was in a test tube in the beginning already raises strange questions.
People also noted that in the teaser trailer a few months back, a lot of the bizarre imagery somewhat resembled the forming of a living organism. But why for something like this? Maybe it will go back to how Octolings are formed. In fact, a returning character might further explain a few things.

But then something goes wrong that sucks Agent 8 (Eight), Pearl and though we don't see her at all, I also assume Marina was sucked in too. Evidently, other peeps were sucked in due to Acht (Dedf1sh)'s appearance. No idea how, but I'd like to wager the possibility of a returning Commander Tartar, an AI. Maybe like how Mega Man X has Sigma as a constantly returning force because of his AI backups and the like.
As for Marina's whereabouts, she's either yeeted somewhere else in this digital world completely (like how Acht is just already inside the Tower of Order) and is in danger. I don't think she'll be a villain of her own volition, but a possibility of a corrupted or sanitised Marina is possible.

Speaking of sanitisation, well, I thought it was already fairly clear, but I guess not, but what is sanitisation has been on the minds of a few. I thought it was just the process of taking free will away from one. Maybe it's a bit more dire than we think. What if this digital world is like the real face of the Splatoon world and being sanitised makes you aware of your fictitious reality? I wouldn't be saying this if people didn't remind us of this 'free will is a lie and we're in a simulation' joke Marina made in one of the S2 Splatfests.
With that said, this isn't one of my prefered theories just because I don't want this Splatoon world to just be a fictitious reality... even if there's actually a fair bit of evidence for that, maybe.

But then here comes Dedf1sh, and this is where I get to talk a bit more because she's interested me for a while now.
According to the Squid Research lab, Acht was a promising and talented DJ, but as she grew more popular, doubts started to cloud her mind and to rid of them, she happened across this sanitisation thing. She actually allowed herself to be sanitised partially so she can then dedicate her life to DJ and music work without the stresses of doubt and the like. The way the excerpt is written makes me think she has not even a sense of will EXCEPT for things relating to (her) music.

In the recent Side Order trailer, it's revealed that she and Marina go 'way back'. Oh, also that her name is 'Acht'. This is significant because if you don't know, 'acht' is German for 'eight'. Agent 8's name is Eight canonically. Some people speculate that alongside this whole cloning business, Acht might be like the original Eight or one of.
Her relationship to Marina also sparks questions for me like how they allegedly parted? When did they even get to part? Was it a mutual parting? etc.

I think I'm the only one to say this, but I'm going to be straight with you: I don't think Acht is to be trusted.
First of all, why is she even here in this digital world? She was sucked in and to be fair, we don't know the radius of the sucking, but if it's rather close range, then Acht had to have been close by. She claims to also have just been roped into this whole situation, but since she seems to already have knowledge of the world, it raises red flags for me as to her intentions.
Secondly, helping us or not, she's sanitised to some degree. Combined with the excerpt above, I think we have reason to doubt her own cognitive level. The other sanitised Octolings from Octo Expansion were given orders, and who's to say Acht has been given a similar task and since she's not fully sanitised, she can at least speak normally from the outside. In other words, I think she might be controlled.
Third, and this one will sound weird, but... let me see her eyes. Eyes can tell us a lot about a character, especially from a piece of media in Japan, a country that uses eyes far more as a way to show emotion and more importantly in this case, a level of trust. That's what I think anyway.

Now, will Acht be the main antagonist? Kinda doubt to be honest, but I'm going to hold on to this guess that she's not to be trusted. I believe her goal is to maybe end Marina for wronging her or maybe something a bit more vile as a result of... Marina's leaving of the Octarian Army, I don't know.

In any case, I look forward to seeing what Side Order gives us, and I hope it's a ton of fun.
