I think Stimpy looks fine but Ren looks pretty generic. Can't see him being insane and doing his signature facial expressions

Stimpy dressed as a milkman kinda reminds of the Nickelodeon "Games" Logo that appeared at the end of every Ren and Stimpy episode.

GantzAistar In reply to MCCToonsfan1999 [2018-08-07 03:22:17 +0000 UTC]

I purposely used the Games outfit, because I despise John and John hated the Games episodes and said: "giving an unedited cartoon to the milkman and having him finish it for ya". So they created that logo as a revenge.

Yeah, it's almost like he doesn't want animation to mature as an art form, and wants everything to be like how it was when he was a kid. John seems to think that all cartoons have to be zany, fast-paced and cartoonish, when, as an animator, he should actually be EMBRACING animation taking on different genres and styles. The man was influential though, whether you like it or not, because Ren and Stimpy was revolutionary in that it basically gave the middle finger to the censors. John may be an asshole and a big-time creep, but without him, we may not have shows like South Park, Beavis and Butthead, and Rick and Morty.

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 3

FrostyTrifle1993 In reply to J-rod2000 [2019-05-24 00:47:46 +0000 UTC]

The way I see it, I don't mind getting mature cartoons (even if I do find majority of them mind-numbingly boring). However, I want my zany, fast-paced cartoons, and we're getting none of that these days. I want at least 75% zany cartoons and 25% mature cartoons. Then I'd be set for life.

But yeah, John. K is a jerk. I like him as an artist and I adore his lessons, but as a person, he's real crummy, man.

John K never liked South Park, to the point that in it's first season, he tried to claim that Matt & Trey deliberately ripped him off.

See, he tried to say that Mr. Hanky was deliberately based off of a talking poo character (that I don't think was in ANY of his shows), but most people outside of his DEDICATED fanbase ever gave that claim much credence.

Ironic the guy who hated cookie-cutter 80's animation thinks that all cartoons should be like Bob Clampett or Tex Avery. Any other articles of him bashing South Park or other modern stuff? Would be kind of interested to see.

He wrote for Wild Cartoon Kingdom back in the early-mid '90's and they basically treated him like a god for doing so.

So much so, that they basically allowed him to write under a pseudonym, Tom Paine, where he based Animaniacs for basically beings script driven (a very specific complaint that he used against golden era Simpsons, which tipped people off that Paine was John K), insulted Tress McNeal's voice acting, and tried to spin his firing from Nick.

the hell is wrong with using a script? it's a lot easier to read from one than having to recite the same line 100 times *ahem*

Literally it's only "because that's not what Bob Clampett and the Loony Toons people did". Because Clampett was his mentor and idol, John would worship the ground the man pissed on.

And it's only fitting, because Clampett was also a egomanaic who tried to steal most of the credit for Bugs Bunny for himself.

As an aside, this reminds me of how much people want to dunk on Steven Universe for having inconsistent artstyles (because it's storyboard driven, and the Korean studio draws verbatim), whereas most people (used) to love John K Ren & Stimpy for going off model and doing whatever.

The funny thing is, if John K. didn't come along, the cartoons he pisses on might have never existed. It's also kind of funny how the man who wanted creative freedom ran a workplace that can best be described as totalitarian.

An ex-coworker of his once told me that John is scared of ageing. Which is probably why he clings onto his past so much, but still no excuse to be a dick. I liked my childhood and the cartoons I watched, but I still enjoy modern cartoons. Even the stuff I dislike doesn't mean its bad. If it was all the same, life would be boring.

Another problem of his I heard is that he gets jealous at any other artists that are more famous than him(if you look at his old blog, he used to bash other artists and cartoons like crazy), which is also why he hates modern cartoons.

I agree on his impact, but we shouldn't forget all the other artists that helped to make it happen.

Yeah, Matt Groening, Mike Judge, and Ralph Bakshi were all big influences on adult animation too. Even the people who worked on Ren and Stimpy went on to do other things. Billy West became a huge voice actor, and a majority of the crew went on to work on shows like Spongebob, The Loud House, Samurai Jack, and Lynne Naylor in particular is now working with Craig McCracken.

It's funny you say that because I thought this was taking the piss out of Cal-Arts style (Cal-Arts is basically a funnel for artists to join Disney), because this looks so...bland and ugly, LOL

I'm not taking a piss at calarts, In fact, I want to go to calarts. Also there is no such thing as the Calarts Art Style, the only reason why people still believe in that shit is because /co/ wants you to think that all cartoons nowadays look like SU or Gravity Falls, also Emojis Suck ass

Jeez, you sure got defensive. When you said "I'm glad you don't believe in the Calarts Art Style" I assumed you were one of those people who disliked "Calarts Style" shows like SU or Gravity Falls for having soft, rounded character designs, whereas the Ducktales reboot is hard and angular.

When I said "I'm glad you don't believe in the Calarts Art Style", I meant that I'm Glad he doesn't Confirm the Stereotype that all reboots look like SU or Gravity Falls, also sorry for getting defensive, I guess You just didn't really understood that line, but you know what, It's over and done, so let'sΒ forgive and forget
