Description

290 MYA, Cisuralian, Coast of Gondwana

Although the waters of the Permian oceans weren't populated by massive reptiles that feasted on fish and sometimes even pterosaurs and other marine reptiles there was still a reason to be afraid of the waters. As the sun is about to fall and most land creatures are planning to go to sleep, in the depths of the oceans life starts it's night time shift. And animals here are even stranger than the ones that would swim the oceans of the Mesozoic. Meet the Sawjaw Ghoul shark (Helicoprion bessonowi), one of the weirdest holocephalians we know of. Unlike it's still living cousins-the chimaeras, it prefers a much more dynamic lifestyle and hunts soft bodied cephalopods which it cuts through like a knife through butter with the help of it's tooth whorl. But wait a second, that isn't any type of squid it should be feasting on...Silly Sawjaw! Those aren't squid, they're orthoceratoids! Oh well, life can make mistakes. And it's probably gonna shred some teeth on those shells. Let's just hope that the next prey it will  catch won't be this tough.
