Description Because I get mad at Cosplayers who hoard their expertise, I decided to make a tutorial for the Pigtail innovation I came up with.
Ok, so its not the absolute best, but here it is!

I promise to get more pictures and make a more in-depth one when I start on my Wicked Lady wig. But until then, I don't have the materials, and quite frankly I don't care! lol

I will be selling these pigtails ready-made. And they won't be insanely expensive. Probably around $40-45. Note me if you wish to request a specific color!

Have fun figuring this out Kids!

for those who are just turning to this tutorial a couple of hints. The rope braid should be a quarter of an inch thick. The weft extension you use should be 8 ft long and about 19-20in in length but no longer than that. Each spiral should be about a quarter to half an inch from the last depending on how thick you want your tail to be remember though the closer together the more weft your going to need.

Can I ask how long the wefts you used were? I can't order from ragdolly or sallys, due to being in the UK

Question, is it 3 wefts per pigtail?

Wonderful tutorial! I'm definitely going to be using this in the not too distant future, because now I know what you mean by the nightmare of loose fiber pigtails. Heheh. =_=; That'll teach me.

I'm thinking about using this method to do a Miku Hatsune wig. Whats your opinion on using longer wefts and making it less layery? Or would that look funny

Can I ask you where you get your wefts? I've been looking trying to find good quality ones that weren't insanely expensive but haven't had any luck.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Wig looks great btw

I get them from wherever I can find them! My suppliers change practically every time I do a wig.
I had gotten the wefts in party colors from cosworx, they got very unreliable recently with their weft selection.
In regular colors (613 blonde or 27/613) I usually buy from a site called Hair Sisters. I buy Outre Batik in silky straight. There is a local hair shop that I can sometimes find this brand in as well.

Do you think this could work for something like Rapunzel?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GarnetFlight In reply to xRoxyryokox [2010-11-06 18:25:53 +0000 UTC]

yes. I had someone on here use it to make a lovely long braid for ren faire. It could easily be used to make a rapunzel braid Or several tails to make it look like you have really long hair. It will be heavier the more weft you use of course.

But this definitely helps! I'll try your method as soon as I can get the materials. (:

If I could favorite this over and over I would.. I just used this method on very thin cotton cord, to make three sets of strands, so I could have a long braid for the renaissance faire. Thank you so much for sharing! Now off to dye. Crossing my fingers on that one.

GarnetFlight In reply to LuckyElement7 [2008-05-24 03:15:58 +0000 UTC]

YAY! I love feedback. Thankyou for telling me! Please post pictures if you can!

What are you using for dye?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LuckyElement7 In reply to GarnetFlight [2008-05-24 05:08:45 +0000 UTC]

the same color I usually use to dye my own hair.. L'oreal mega reds: light intense copper.. I will post pictures, but so far, it looks like it may have come out a little bit darker than my hair, but it hasn't dried fully yet. I used two colors wrapped around each other that were pretty close to what my hair color fades to (a goldish blonde and a light auburny brown). So I was hoping it'd work out. Sigh.. reds are hard.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GarnetFlight In reply to LuckyElement7 [2008-05-24 14:04:59 +0000 UTC]

reds Are very hard. If it is darker than your hair, put it in the tub with some dish detergent and swish it for, like, 15 minutes. Grab a book or something.
I do a similar operation with my own hair when its too dark except it involves me and a bath! lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LuckyElement7 In reply to GarnetFlight [2008-05-25 01:19:18 +0000 UTC]

Hey thanks, that totally worked! I put the hair in the tub with a foaming soap for washing dishes in the sink at first, and some orange was coming off, but then I tried the soap for machine washing, and the deep purple started coming out.. It worked really well! Genius.

Nice! I never thought of doing it like that, but your'e right - you can get such a huge amount of length!

Do you know where to buy colored wefted hair (ie. not normal colors)? I've tried to find some, but so far, nothing XP I'm too lazy to make my own wefts (mainly because I think the caulk method is too bulky, and I haven't successfully sewn wefts myself yet )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GarnetFlight In reply to taeliac [2007-06-19 19:19:49 +0000 UTC]

Go to Ragdolly.net they carry all the party colors, and even some natural colors too. It takes forever to get the weft, but its worth it. If you're in a hurry go to Amphigory.com it costs more there, but you'll get it faster!

Holy wow~ Ya know, I checked that site a long time ago, and they didn't have half of what they have now! Thank you ~ They even have goggles (like I was trying to find for a customer a while back XP) Thank you so much!

Amphigory has them too, now? Wow, I totally pay attention

Don't feel like editing!
To find WEFT go to Ragdolly.net. they have a long order period, as in it takes a MONTH to get your hair. But its worth it for the price. If you're impatient, Amphigory.net also stocks weft hair in party colors.
I get my natural tones from a local Sally's beauty. They only carry natural tones there. Call your local Sally's and see if they carry Synthetic Weft hair.

Ok. I'm done!
