1 more to go...I'll go back after I finish the thrid panel and tone down those highlights on Goon's shirt in the second panel. Keeps drawing my eye over there.
Just photocopied the page straight outta an issue of Goon Noir. I'm not involved with The Goon in any shape or form. This is simply practice work that'll eventually end up as portfolio fodder.

Picked up an issue of The Goon for the very first time yesterday. I was looking for some spirit and energy so I went to the local comic book shop and annoyed them for a couple of hours looking through a bunch of books. I say 'annoyed' because I was there perusing for 2 hours and only bought one thing...issue #25 of The Goon. Mostly white cover, two figures on the cover only.
I liked it. Had no idea what was going on, but I really liked the visual aspects of the storytelling. Old school all the way.
Would never have given it a look had you not submitted this page in your gallery. Thanks for exposing me to some kick-ass sequential art.

The Goon's great. Definitely one of my top 2 favorites from Dark Horse. Love Powell's artwork and the stories/characters just make me laugh. The only big complaint I have is the long wait between issues. Makes it easier for me just to wait on the trades instead of snagging the individual issues.

I'll probably pick up a trade as well. I don't usually buy single issues at all anymore, just makes no sense from a financial perspective. How many Goon books are out in trades?

They have 4 or 5 trades out now and The Goon: Chinatown OGN (haven't read Chinatown yet, so dunno if it's worth recommending). The trade numbers start with Volume 0 instead of 1. They have another version of the trades called the "Fancy Pants Edition" but they don't really collect all the stories chronologically, just the ones that they think are the best. I'm not sure if they ever collected The Goon: Noir into a trade or not. It's a 3 issue b&w mini where different artists/writers contributed a buncha short stories.

Yeah, Ploog is one of the all time greats. He has such a diverse range of styles that can work in any genre, from horror to children's books.
