I guess mermaids rebel in different manners. Some like Ariel fall in love with humans and get magical legs. Others take up smoking.

Very interesting concept =O I don't have anything really to add about the physical design (except the horned headband seems like it will need some sort of story -like everyone in the gang wears them, etc) but I think a smoking mermaid's really creative, especially if it follows the lore that mermaids can't breathe above water =O
