Very good work Gary, I love his face expression and the close up framing. I see a lot of portraits paintings in the galleries actually, large size are impressive. Look at the paintings of Rémi Planche, a young french painter. He actually paints animals, but I prefer the portraits of a old men. www.facebook.com/remiplanchepe…

You are very welcome Gary, we all learn with our environment, we learn from other people and all what is around us Rémi Planche has a speciel technic, like an engravng. He paints and before it dries he engrave it... you see what I mean ? Look at his work close up. Have a good sunday

Yes I agree, i guess environment means everything from whats observed in nature, media, sounds etc, just general consciousness and limited to the effort or natural absorption of the individual, maybe thats where "talent" lies...turning it on its head if you had put aristotle or michelangelo in a white room for their entire life i doubt than any creative output would have occurred, so yes I agree with you...interesting debate especially if you add subliminal aspects or media input where things are strategically placed in films, on billboards, advertising, supermarkets etc etc...
Many thanks i have looked at Remi's work on line, would be great to see some in the flesh , ill investigate a bit more, thank you...interesting to think about the creative process as well as the aesthetic result...its whirring messily in my head a little. ...in a similar vein I went to see the BP portrait exhibition in London last week, theres a guy exhibiting called Ivan Fraga, i was just stopped in my tracks at his work, its oil painting, v realistic but if you bleached his painting it would be virtually as smooth as bristol board..its truly amazing control, technique, call it what you will...Im not saying its THE way to paint but its another technique that id be fascinated to see how he does it, it may suit some approach you want to achieve, much in the same way as Remi's pre engraving may suit another painting...its a daunting prospect looking at the range of stuff to try and learn.
really appreciate the points you have raised, very interesting and much food for thought
Have a great sunday too, all the best

Rémi Planche scrapes the painting with a "spike" for a graphism that looks like engraving.
I saw his work "in real' in the gallery where I exhibit actually at Paris. Wow, incrediblely
crazy artwork, I love it.
Thank you very much for the Ivan Fraga exemple, I visited his website and
my jaw dropped to the floor Wow !

All these artists known or not are very inspiring, it makes us envie to create
more and more. It is why I love to share my work and explain how I
work to younger artists, to avoid to them the white room
Look at this video --> www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQOGSw…
Better than words to see how I paint.
Have a creative week or very good holidays and rest under the sun

Hi Daniel , yes his (Ivan Fragas) work is amazing but you are in that elite league that the rest of us aspire to...everyones ultimate hand will be different and I suppose that makes each as valid ,unique, valuable , call it what you will, as any other, I suppose that applies to anyone whos ability crosses that intangible line of elite excellence?. They all make tha standard its just created according to an individuals eye...like comparing Rembrandt to Velasquez, you can tell them apart but they are same sort of excellence.
Many thanks for the you tube link I will definitely be taking a look, im keen to improve as much as I can. Its very good of you to selflessly share it...
All the very best to you and many thanks for the advice , tips etc
Have a great day
