Description Here is Asura from Asura’s Wrath, as if he were a PS1 model.

I’ve always really loved low-poly modeling. It’s such a fun challenge to get as much detail as possible within extreme limitations. The aesthetics from this era of games aren't as fondly remembered as 2D pixel stuff akin to SNES, but I still love them.

Would you like a model like this for your game or personal use? Something like this might cost around $70-100 [link]

I know at least one other person who fondly remembers the aesthetics of the era...

So this is what asura would look like on the PS1... one of the most underestimated consoles ever! X3

Nice work!

I wish there was more of a market for these kinds of models nowadays. Even in the indie game world, nobody really wants to make something look like it's from a PS1.

I kinda want to make one. And I'd definitely play one! Going for authentic PS1-era graphics probably wouldn't be the best look, I think the Nintendo DS has some good examples of 3D games that are in the perfect sweet spot of having just enough triangles to get the job done but also without actually looking that dated (Mario Kart DS is a great example).

For this one specifically, if I might critique slightly, I think your texture needs richer colors. Looking at the real art for the game [link] obviously lighting makes a big difference, but your texture looks kinda muddy and desaturated by comparison. I think you could get more out of it. The model itself looks great!

I always wonder how a game with contemporary coding and design but a vintage 3D visual style would be received.

You're right about the texture colors. I also got some feedback about optimizing my UV space, so I'm currently working on retexturing him completely. Hopefully it will match the source more accurately.

It seems like I've seen people get really excited about low-spec 3D when it's been just a badass character model or something, but I wonder if those are just other artist or game designers who have a particular passion for that sort of thing. Hard to say about people at large.

I'd like to see your updated version of this model, do you think you could also do a little before-and-after with the UV maps? I'm curious!

Yeah, true. Though, sometimes it could look really dated.
