Ha, me too! His run on X-Force was a huge influence on me back in the 90's. He actually came up to my table at a con once and introduced himself, and I totally fanboyed out on him, lol!

I think I like the shading here more than what ended up in the book

I like the technique you used here. How do you go about doing this style of coloring?

GavinMichelli In reply to Sagakarikikkaru [2013-09-19 17:28:36 +0000 UTC]
Basically, I do a grayscale painting, then add adjustment layers over it.Β It's a lot like this fav.me/d6180uk but my style of rendering is different just because of my background in acrylic and oil painting

I just took one of Greg's drawings and colored it in Photoshop. I have a few tutorials and studies in my gallery [link] , but there's not a lot like this. Mostly drawing stuff. To be honest, I don't think I've ever colored a picture the same way twice. I'm constantly learning new ways to do things.

this is cool! I like how Batman's more heavily colored, and the villains are just pencilled (sp?) in.

LOL, that's just because I didn't finish the page. I was mainly focused on Bats I was hoping to finish this and maybe show it to Capullo at a con, but I don't think that's going to happen.

I like it "as-is." Really keeps the focus on the Dark Knight.

I've been a huge fan since his X-Force days. I'm so glad he's gotten away from Spawn and started doing his own thing again.

I wasn't aware he had a stint with X-Force, but yes I agree on the Spawn thing.

We're talking way back in the early 90s. He took over X-Force after Liefeld left. I think I was like 12.

Wow, I didn't know that. I'll have to look up some old covers and stuff that he did.
Just out of curiosity, what do you think so far of the Snyder/Capullo run on Batman?

GavinMichelli In reply to ElijahCurtis [2013-04-06 16:47:33 +0000 UTC]
I've only read the first few issues, but I really like 'em. The Court of Owls trade is next on my Amazon "to buy" list", hahaha. DC is putting out a lot of really good stuff right now. I'm still working on reading all of it!

Thanks, man! Well...this is actually skipping inks (even though Capullo's inker, Jonathan Glapion, is a beast). If it turns out that you don't like my inks on Amazon, and you dig this look, then going straight from pencils to color is another option. I'm almost finished inking the first page, so I'll let you make that call
