I'm planning on going all-digital for my next few commissions (if not permanently), so I thought I'd try out a few new techniques
So far, I've thrown down new designs for Kyle and Hal, but I still haven't touched my favorite lantern, John Stewart. Maybe next time.This version was pretty heavily inspired by the segmented GL suit from the animated movie, which, if you haven't seen it IS AWESOME!!! I tried to make it really look like energy armor, like it was a glass casing with green fire churning underneath. Also, I found a way to incorporate Hal's cheesy white gloves in a way that I found pleasing.

I agree. But I did like how the you could see the energy move in the symbol and some of the green areas in the movie. Gave it an ethereal type of feel. Was really cool. If they could take that and add more elements from the animated GL movies to make them look more armored, that would be perfect. The GL are soldiers and should look like they have armor or uniform like police officers, not spandex lol.

Would love to see Kyle in this though, it'd fit with the light armor theme of his original costume.

He used to make manga/anime inspired constructs back in the '90s, maybe that's the way to go for him.

That's a really clever solution for explaining the white gloves, even if Ilike the classic costume, I always thought it didn't make any sense that there was black and white in the suit when it was supposed to be ring-generated. Would love to see K

Thanks! I actually took a lot of inspiration from the GL animated toon. I loved the segmented armor that they gave him, so I just took it a step further.

On the white parts, I either used the "outer glow" layer style, or it's a motion blurred layer set to "screen". Generally, I just airbrush lightly on a Screen layer.

Now this is COOL! Like how the costume looks more like armor! Perhaps they should have used this kind of idea for the movie instead of that whole weird skin-looking design!

I was kind of hoping for that. The GL animated movie had such awesome costume designs, I was hoping for something similar in live action. But I have to say, I'm intrigued by the movie costume. It's a neat concept.
