Thanks, man! Hey, did you catch the TUF finale? Every one of my pics lost!

I did! I was rooting for Marcus but he had zero striking skills! I was surprised how he was well versed on the ground for a beginner though!

The only pick i had that won was Kimbo. LOL. Houston was tooo freakin careful!

I had picked Houston to win, but I was pulling for Kimbo. I don't know what the hell happened to Houston, but after that sorry performance, he needs to gtfo of the ufc. That didn't even look like the same guy that ko'd Kieth Jardine! I was really impressed with those big slams that Kimbo had, too. If he can learn some ground and pound (which, apparently, he's already started to) he could be a force in the ufc.

I was pulling for Big Baby, too! That guys is awesome! I've never heard someone compare fighting to ice cream before!

Man, Jon Jones is a freak! I'm convinced he really is the Martian Manhunter incognito I don't know anyone who doesn't like Matt Hammil, but that guy got dominated...right up until those illegal elbows. Ouch.

Yeah... Houston was following his camp's plan down to a T but the plan was a f'ng bore and im sure Dana was disgusted with his performance. If he went out to bang, i think he would've won as his punches are faster and crispier... and Kimbo has been knocked down by much lesser opponents too.

But Kimbo really showed game! His slams and take downs were awesome. He even got Houston's back at one point but sadly, he didnt know what to do... but he'll learn.

Jon Jones was great! Damn... he made Hamill look like an amateur! I guess he got caught up in the excitement and forgot the rules. Class act of a guy too.

Yeah, he's cool. I don't think this loss will have any effect whatsoever on his rise to the top. He'll be holding a belt very, very soon.

Man, I'm pumped for the fights tonight! Penn vs Sanchez is going to be a war!! Mir and Kongo should be really good, too. Mir has gotten into Kongo's head pretty badly, and he's packed on almost 30 pounds of muscle, so I don't see this one going to a decision. Did you see the weigh-in pics? Mir is huge and ripped! Kongo is REALLY pissed, too, so this should be a bloodbath.

Damn... juz watched it yesterday and Penn made Diego looked like a novice! And its high time Diego learned that actually... i mean, i like the dude despite being a bit crazy but Penn was right that he hasnt faced anyone outside his skill level.

As for Mir... daaaaaaaamnnnnnn!

Diego definitely fought like a warrior, but he just didn't have anything for BJ. I don't see a new LW champ anytime in the near future, unless GSP can cut to 155 (which, judging by his frame, would be pretty much impossible). I don't see anyone taking that belt anytime soon.

I knew Mir had that fight, but I thought it would at least leave the first round! Velasquez couldn't even finish Kongo, and Mir did it in a minute without so much as a scratch or bruise to show for it!

Florian had a great performance, too. I love Guida (that huge belch he let out while the doc was checking him was HILARIOUS!) but he needs to sharpen those hands a little. Hopefully, we'll see a Florian/Sanchez rematch in the near future.

True that... As long as Penn doesnt go back to his old ways and slouch, he will achieve what GSP has in lightweight.

Guida really has to improve his game. I mean, hes fun to watch and all but he doesnt fight intelligently and it has cost him the last few fights.

He does a little ground and pound, but not nearly enough to finish fights. If he can put a little more force on those ground blows or tighten up his submission game, he could use the pace to soften his opponents and finish them late in the fight. As is stands now, all he really has going for him is a frenetic pace. That's not nearly enough to work his way to the upper crust of the LW division.

So...JONES VS VERA!!! Man, that's going to be a great fight. I can't wait for 109. Couture vs Coleman should be pretty good, too. Two legends squaring off for the first time!

Jones vs Vera? really? damn... being a Filipino, i gotta go with Vera but damn, i think Jones has more weapons in his arsenal. Hope Vera hasnt slacked off like he did in the past coz Jones aint no joke!

If Coleman doesnt improve his stamina, he's gonna be dead by the 3rd round coz Couture can clinch from sunup to sundown!

I really used to love Vera for his explosive fighting style and his ability to finish opponents by both submission and KO. He just doesn't perform like he used to. His drop to LHW really helped him, but all of those losses at HW really dulled his killer instinct. I'm still a fan, but I just don't think he has the tools to deal with Jones, who is basically a younger and more talented version of Vera.

I have no doubt that Vera will be Jones' toughest challenge to date, though. As we saw against Randy, Vera is no pushover. Hell, if he can pull out his old bag of tricks (maybe a KO like he had against Mir or an out-of-nowhere submission like he pulled on Assuerio Siva) he might have a shot at winning this thing and revitalizing his career.

semaj007 In reply to GavinMichelli [2009-12-22 01:12:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... i think so too. Vera has improved a lot since he dropped weight. As a HW, he was too small and too unfit but LHW is perfect for him.

I guess Jones is as much of a challenge for a Vera's comeback run as much as Vera is for Jones' rising career. Regardless who would win, im sure the audience will have a fight to remember!
