I must have sketched this out a year ago, at least! Now that I've gotten through midterms I can finally work on pictures again -- hopefully this will be the first of many posted here.
Anyway, I was trying something different with the coloring... Cel-style's not my strength, but it was fun. (Their hair was particularly tough for me so please be kind!)

I think it came out very well~! It's so pretty!
Cell shading can be a little tricky but I think it's easy enough once you get a bit of practice~ though it looks pretty good on this picture!

Spring break is finally coming up (in about 3 weeks) so I'm looking forward to that, big-time. Hopefully I'll be able to get through all the artwork I have in my "in progress" folder then.

PS -- Oops, I forgot... After I finished with the basic block shading, I deleted the sketch of the hair. That's how you get that bright, no-lines look.

Like with anything all it takes is practice and some experimentation to find a style that you like.

For the hair, first I sketched it out (shape + strands) and then I base-colored it underneath the sketch. Then I locked that layer, faded the sketch (so I could keep it as a map for where shading should go) and put in the biggest shadows. Then I added a few strands in a lighter shade, and then finally did really scribbly highlighting in a few areas. The highlighting was definitely the most difficult part for me!
Oh, and I have a tablet, which is how I got the strands... I can barely base-color with a mouse, but I have seen people do amazing things with mouse-coloring if you don't have a tablet!
