Kept sleek and short. A dark seal tone, closer to black than bay (see this image for reference).

His mane is often tied back, kept in tight braids or knots. His tail is cropped so that it cannot be yanked or caught on anything.

Eyes -
Deep, emerald green. Gauthier prefers to communicate through his expression and body language, so if he is upset or angry (or, though far less likely, affectionate) his eyes will tell you.

Scars/markings -
A thick, dark scar runs from the ridge of his left shoulder down to the inside of his leg. It was acquired at age of 18, when a smuggling expidition went sour. His right ear is also torn from an encounter in his younger years.

Accessories/other -
Gauthier occassionally decorates his mane in tail with metal jewelry that functions to keep it safely out of the way, and like most others who reside in Valore, he enjoys sporting a gilded bridle.

Life has not been kind to Gauthier, and so he has not learned kindness, and does not practice it.

The dark slave trader is a known for being a cruel captor who drives a hard bargain. He is unafraid of resorting to violence to keep his slaves in line, as he believes these harsh tactics will further prepare them for a life in service. He aims to produce the finest champions and servants New Valore has to offer. He sees his slaves as a sub-equine commodity—pit-fighters are but brutal, soulless machines of the arena; serviles are silent, hardworking house decor; laborers are the mud that keeps the city fastened at its seems. His fighters train until they drop, or else will face a beating. His serviles and laborers learn to respect their masters and work hard. Those who believe their slaves cannot be cracked may send them his way for punishment and proper disciplining...at a price, of course.

He will not be questioned by his lessers. He dips his head only to those above him in rank.

Gauthier is no slouch when it comes to wealth, but keeps his gold and jewels under careful guard, and does not spend frivolously unless he knows he can afford to. He frequents the Pearl, partakes in the the humble pleasures of drinking good wine and eating fine meals, and occassionally purchases adornments to highlight his status, but keeps his riches stashed apart from that.

Unfortunately, he is not the brightest creature, for he had no opportunity to recieve an education growing up. Because of this he is a little self-conscious of his vocabulary and articulation, and so speaks in short sentences that are to-the-point. Gauthier is stubborn and tempermental at best, but a stallion of few words. Instead, he relies mostly on his brawn and the subtleties of his mannerisms to get by, which has worked well for the better part of his life. He keeps his thoughts to himself, and prefers to respond to situations physically. If he is displeased with a slave, he does not give them the option to argue before knocking them onto their side. Things are kept simple for him this way—a clear line is drawn between him and his captives.

History:

Foal -
Born the unwanted and unexpected offspring of commoners, Gauthier didn't have a friendly childhood. His mother hardly wanted a foal, and from the moment her son had vacated her body she made that very clear. She reprimanded him for even the most innocent faults. Gauthier was forced to learn from these outbursts and grow up quickly. His father wasn't much kinder, though not because he was verbally abusive; in fact, he didn't say much to his son at all, and all but ignored the family he had fallen into. Gauthier grew up experiencing little tenderness, and carried this with him into adolescence.

Juvenile -
Unsurprisingly, Gauthier sought to escape the shadow of his dam as soon as he was able, and so became a scoundrel, thieving and spying to get by. As his body matured, he began to grow into his heavy frame, and eventually became a rather terrorizing bully. Of course, while he was quite intimidating, his lack of guidance or education of any sort left him dim-witted. He was clever enough to lie and cheat, but had a limited vocabulary and no talent for strategizing or problem-solving.

At the age of 16, Gauthier caught the eye of a slave trader named Babak, who had been in the business for many years. He saw potential in the stout, hot-blooded colt, and proposed employment for him working as his personal assistant. At first, the youth was hesitant, but when he witnessed just how elegantly the slave trader lived compared to himself, he could not refuse.

Babak trained Gauthier in the art of picking out the finest fighters, grunts, and servants, and how to distinguish between them. The trader additionally recruited him as muscle in his transactions, giving the angry, young stallion an outlet by turning him into a bodyguard, and eventually even had him working to discipline the slaves.

Adult -
Naturally, Gauthier fell into the career of slave-trading, after spending several years working for Babak. He finds the job satisfying, and embraces the bountiful lifestyle that comes with it.

At age 24, he inherited his now-retired mentor's establishment, and carried on his legacy...though of course, he made some adjustments. Gauthier has begun moving away from the sales of servile and labor slaves, and putting most of his energy into training pit fighters.

Currently, Gauthier is set on earning a name for himself in his line of work. While he still sells all manner of slaves to supplement his income, he wants to become the city's go-to trader for warriors and mercenaries.
