Description
This is my attempt at completely redesigning the Crossfield Class starship from Star Trek: Discovery. Since development of the series originally began back in late 2015/early 2016, the showrunners/studios behind the series were constantly telling us that this series would be a prequel to The Original Series, and yet everything they have done (tonally, visually and literally) has completely deviated from established canon which calls their claims into question by a number of Star Trek fans, myself included. A lot of people who defend these radical changes may claim that they needed to update things to such a dramatic extent due to a change in how TV series are made in this day and age (surprise surprise, they didn't need to, just look at The Orville), and expect us to keep our mouths shut. I do not wish to offend anyone in anyway, but come on! Even when writing works of fiction, there are rules, just like with everything else. If you begin to deviate from those rules even though you claim to be following them down to the full stop, then the story, and therefore the universe you're attempting to set your story in, falls apart completely. You may not realise it, you probably might not want to even admit it to yourself, but that is what has happened here in regards to Discovery. So, I wanted to prove that you can still make something fit into a time in a universe that was developed for a TV show during the 1960s without having to make such radical changes to aesthetics, and make slight visual updates that remain true to the original styles of the time. And here it is, my take on the Discovery. This version is not equipped with a spore drive (thankfully), so don't expect this thing to start spinning the saucer randomly. The ship is 126 meters wide, 256 meters long and 44 meters tall. I decided to have the saucer larger than other parts of the ship because the original design didn't look right at all (to me it looked too much like a Concorde with chopsticks on the wings and a Stargate slapped on top of the cockpit). And notice I went back to the standard typeface for the ship's markings instead of using the later 23rd Century lettering used from TMP onwards? Also take notice of the ship's livery, how much I wanted to keep in line with the colourscheme and other hull details from the TOS Constitution Class.

Many thanks to thefirstfleet who helped me out and gave me his thoughts during the original design process.

This is awesome, I like how it looks. How do you envision the Bridge looking on your design?

Less like DS9's Ops, more like a cross between the bridge of the NX-01 and the TOS bridge XD

Honestly, I feel as though even JJs aesthetics are better than STD's XD At least in regards to the Starfleet ships other than the Enterprise seen in the 2009 film. Guess that's why those designs were used in Axanar...
If you like this though, you should also check out my U.S.S. Rostov design.
