Description
I made a diagram to explain the basics of the magic system of my story. It is known as "Gia", which is used to describe both the power source (Mana) and the act of using the power source (Magic). Every living thing has the potential to use Gia to varying degrees and for various functions, but every living thing is limited by the "Forte" that they possess. A Forte is a specific way that Gia can be used, of which there are 8 commonly known Fortes. Everyone is born with an affinity towards one Forte in particular, which they will be able to develop their own abilities off of.

Forte Compatibililty
It is possible to learn multiple Fortes, but one has to take into consideration their natural Forte that they possess. The graph shows the relationship between Fortes, demonstrating that the compatibility of one Forte with another depends on the distance on the graph. So a person with the Enhance Forte will have a difficult time learning how to utilize their Gia for Summoning, but if they wish to learn Infuse or Control, it will be relatively easy.

The Placebo Effect
There is one more important principle to Gia known as The Placebo Effect, which is a principle of Gia tied to the state of the mind. It is believed that the state of the mind can effect the state of the body, and Gia adheres to the same concept. What this means is that people can set conditions and limitations on their Gia (i.e. I can only use my Gia when it rains) and their Gia will become stronger in turn by automating the activation process of Gia abilities.
