The puns~
Lately I've been procrastinating and making fakemon instead of studying lol, so here's more fakemon for ya, they'd be regional fossils but be total shit competitively, maybe useful for a troll NU team or something.
OBSAUR (obsidian + -saur suffix)
The Lava Pokémon
Ability: Magma Armor
In ancient times, OBSAUR drank magma from volcanic raters and spewed it at enemies.
Evolves at Level 40 into
GIGAGNUS (gigantic + igneous)
Ability: Magma Armor
The veins of GIGAGNUS are filled with superheated magma, and they use this to keep their young warm in cold weather.
Again, I'm imagining these as like the Castform of my gen, no one would like them ever.

Well, I wouldn't say replacing an ability with a sorely needed immunity is really overpowered. They've still got water type attacks to look out for.

Yeah, that would work also. Unforunatly, the pokemon as hot as the sun (Magcargo) isn't got enough to evaporate water.

I like the thought of a rock / fire long neck using magma as a resource. I think it might benefit from adding a little more rock and that heat veining concept you mentioned. Particularly for the second stage it could have rock legs like it has been wading in magma. Or also a heat veined under belly to bring out that warming the youngsters as they would be able to fit under it. Also towards that end you could have it so the first stage ones had to ride on the adult backs till they evolved for protection from predators and for herd movement speed.
