Wonderful photo Shared the sky with the Isles of scilly skybus on many occasions when I learned to fly in Cornwall over 10yrs ago.

I understand if you don't want to give away personal trade secrets, but what techniques did you use in post? I love the style of grain in the photo, my first glance was that it was a digital painting in extreme detail. Was this effect due more to the camera/lens or any filters added afterwards? Would really love to know this exercise, thanks!

Hey thanks
The grain is actually just part of the photo - I simply don't remove them in RAW conversion - because I liked it
I have applied a few graduated/circular filters in Adobe Bridge to do local adjustments, to bring the sky back down, increase the contrast of the ceiling of the plane (and the dashboard thing), and then just simple curves to achieve the look I wanted. The top right corner might have been a lot darker that I raised up, hence the grain there.
Pretty much applied what I have learnt from colour grading interviews to my photos

Excellent shot, superb composition, tack sharp in all the right places, and the fact that you can see the pilot in the mirror adds a perfect final compositional touch! I would say that it’s an extremely saleable commercial image, might be worth contacting and showing it to the airline perhaps? I reckon they’d be extremely interested in it, I could see this easily gracing their company brochures or office walls!

The general composition is really nice. the view and angle and placement and all.
What you maybe could look into more, is the mirror capture. it's very hard to notice and maybe something to work out a little more to capture even more dramatic photos!

Perhaps not, the focus is on the pilot anyway, and it's nice to find details like that. But ye if you get the chance experiment a bit more with it

An uncommon (in my experience) class of photographs, and exceptionally well-executed. The composition (with the runway 'horizontal' and the cockpit at an angle, and the pilot's hand securely placed on the on the control) makes this a very dynamic, eye-catching shot. The pilot's image in the small mirror adds a touch of whimsy. There's not a lot that I don't like about this image - if I had to say something negative, it would be that I wish the runway area was more 'interesting'.
Thank you for sharing this!
