A kind and soft individual, Areve brings comfort to the people around her. Patient and attentive, she often takes on the role of a mother hen. Being the oldest of four siblings, she's learned to be responsible and independent. Years of helping out at her parents' shops have developed an affable personality, as Areve is able to easily hold and guide conversations with others. Friendly and attuned to the subtleties and emotions of others, Areve has an uncanny ability to offer a shoulder to cry on without needing to be asked first.

Her deep concern for the well-being of others leaves her lacking when it comes to herself. She has a tendency to put herself last, even in the most dire of situations. She is incredibly nosy and anxious, and can come off as overbearing upon first meeting. She is quite sensitive to the criticism of others, and negative comments can keep her up at night for a while. Areve's magic allows her to create and manipulate glass. The larger the glass, the more energy it requires to create and the more complex and detailed the shape, the more concentration and magical precision is required.

She can make virtually anything with her magic, from bobbles and lenses, to statues and marbles. She can only create and manipulate one piece of glass at a time, however, and attempting to control any more cause her control over it to weaken dramatically.

History:
The eldest sister of 4 siblings, Areve grew up in a small quiet town by the country. Her family was one with a long history of witches, a trait that seemed to be passed down through the females of the family. Her father was a baker, and her mother a witch that specialized in making salts. They lived modestly, and made income selling the goods that her parents made.

The town was a old one, and the people in it still more or less believed in the old ways. Superstitions like unlucky black cats, and throwing salt over your shoulder were part of the people's daily lives. The salts her mother made had mystical healing qualities, and the locals spoke highly of the products. They had amiable relationships with their non-magical neighbors. They never realized just how genuine the "magical healing salts" were, and the Lateliers never spoke of it either.

Since she was young, Areve's mother would often tell her stories of the witches in her family. The fantastical tales of magic would leave the young Areve in awe and excitement. When her affinity for magic was made known through an accidentally broken flower vase, her family celebrated the joyous occasion. Due to her still unstable magic, and also because of the nature of her parents' work, she was homeschooled with the rest of her siblings. She helped out in the stores while also helping to raise her younger siblings, all while managing her own studies.

The letter in the mail came as no surprise to the family, and her bags and belongings were packed and ready within moments. Her mother and her mother before her were alumni of Saint Spell, a school that was said to be a gathering place of aspiring witches and wizards. They spoke highly of the academy, and young Areve aspired to follow in their footsteps.

Bidding her parents and siblings farewell, she embarks on her journey to the school of her dreams.
