Honestly this is the kind of story I hate.
The story begins with some kind of action or dangerous scene, then it pauses to hear the protagonist narrate and introduce themselves, then there's "You're probably wondering how I got to this point."
Next scene takes place hours or days before. We see these characters back then and know they survive up until this point. Then I hope that first scene shows up within the first 15 minutes, because it's worse if the first scene shows up near the end. Its like a spoiler.
They did this all the time on "Supernatural". Its one of the reasons I stopped watching it. Good thing this isn't "Supernatural" and am looking forward to the next one.
