You should totally give it a go, they've got a 30 day fully functional trial on the adobe website.
I've been shopping around for decent RAW processing program for a while and it's totally the best, plus you can switch photos between it and PS while you work so it's so much easier to work with than stuff like Capture One, I totally recommend it XD

I'll have to keep that in mind. They teach that class at the college, but it's really small (8 seats or so) so it got cancelled when I signed up last semester. I use Photoshop now, but I've never edited in RAW and I heard that Lightroom is awesome. xD
