So, saw Equestria Girls, and Sunset Shimmer was awesome. The movie overall was way better than I thought it'd be. Thought it'd be cool to make a pony version of her final form. She's Nightmare Moon 2:
1 - Luna seems scared when the darkness is covering her,as well as Sunset. (Sunset cries during the transformation.)
2 - Both became evil after the transformation (Sunset was already evil) and they almost got what they wanted.
3 - Both were 'killed' by a magic rainbow,and turned back to normal after it.

If she were to have a "Nightmare" form, she'd be taller, all black, and her mane and tail would be absurdly long and wavy. So I'd lean more towards Demoness for this look.

The Demon boost is more powerful though.
Luna went from being slightly weaker than Celestia to being slightly stronger
Sunset went from mildly powerful unicorn to Discord+ plus level

It would take quite a bit of energy, but yes she could. When Discord gets hit by the elements everything is back to normal in seconds. With Sunset Shimmer what she had corrupted required a shot of its own to deposses it. Actually so far Sunset's demon form seems to be the most powerful villain. To give you a clear example, I'll use power levels in the DBZ style to show you what I mean in more detail.
*Note destroying the Moon requires a power level of about 123, so you scale from there*
Celestia=4,161,250,000=Celestia can control the Sun with ease everyday. Stands to reason she can destroy it.
Luna=4,000,000,000=Roughly Celestia's equal but a bit weaker
Chrysalis(love absorbed)=4,868,662,500=One shotting Celestia with effort
Discord=93,000,000,000=casually making overpowering Celestia and Luna and solar system reality warping with ease
Elements of Harmony=111,000,000,000=Owning Discord
Sunset Shimmer=99,000,000,000=Slightly stronger than Discord and making the Elements struggle but ultimately losing.
Sombra=4,200,250,000=Stronger than one royal sister but defeated when they combine.
Love Shield=5,800,679,000=Tossing away but not killing Chrysalis and her entire army with ease
Crystal Heart=7,354,95,000=Utterly destroying every last trace of Sombra

Indeed, MLP characters are mid-tier DBZ in terms of power (SSJ2 Gohan to Suppressed Cell). Sunset would eventually beat Discord but the fight would be long and dangerous for both with a very good chance of serious injury. Sunset would come out with a black eye, a broken wing, internal bleeding, cracked ribs, broken nose, knocked out teeth, dislocated elbow, bruises and cuts everywhere, burns on her hands and chest, her hair scorched and blackened, and her tail gone completely.

Typically a Godess in born with their power while Sunset stole it. Honestly her demon form has more in common with a with a proxy body than a demon. Sunset is not in control and is implied to be in pain while in the transformation. As for being a creature of destruction, no not really. Sunset didn't really want to destroy so much as just rule everything. The Smooze(most powerful MLP villain in total as he tanked the Rainbow of Light and laughed it off) is more accurate for god of destruction as its only goal is to destroy everything. Sunset is a proxy of domination

In name but not in style. Sunset prefers to brute force her way to domination even when she didn't have power while Molag Bal is more subtle. Sunset is also more powerful than Molag and would probably try to kill him. Molag Bal is really more a creature of corruption rather than brute power.

It's odd. Even before gaining power, Sunset simply steamrolled enemies via political power and social attacks. She didn't try to manipulate because she didn't need to. Ironically, she still doesn't see herself as a monster

I'd say this form was a result of the Element of Magic rejecting her as she wasn't Twilight and possessed no such qualities required to bear it, resulting in a rebound of energy that transformed her into what she really was: an evil creature that controlled everyone she wanted.
