Description This is the Cosmology, well to be more accurate the Great Wheel Cosmology. This is a mere artistic depiction of a very complex Cosmic structure that is so complex that the Mortal mind can not comprehend it. The cosmology has been described as being a giant tree supporting the Realms or an Axis. (This is a similar concept to Norse Mythology)

Regardless how it is described the Cosmology is a complex, comparatively cosmopolitan place in which the gods of the world and pantheons mingled, the beliefs of many faiths and peoples bleeding together in a set of Outer Planes shaped predominantly by the polar forces of Law, Chaos, Good, Neutrality, and Evil. The inner planes are were the mortal world is and the elements and The Outer Planes are afterlives to mortals depending on how they were in life and who they worshipped. The creation of the OverGod Lord Ao at the beginning of time. We shall explore this Cosmology and its 16 realms.

The Mortal Realm (Toril) is where the Mortal races live. This world is a special, it is where the Gods have given life to their creations. The cosmos was born here, Toril has its solar system and is orbited by a moon which will often be surrounded by seven silver stars called the “Tears of Selûne” these are the very first stars to be born. Here on Toril many legends and heroes were born, empires that rose and fell, and great stories were told. The Mortal Realm has echoes, reflections that are similar but quite different it comparison.

The Feywild, the Plane of Faerie, is land suffused with potent magic, and unrestrained emotions. It was the place from which fey originated, and from where the first elves arrived in Faerûn. The Feywild was a place of unrestrained and awe-inspiring natural beauty. The plane is always bathed in twilight of the setting (or perhaps rising) sun, with lanterns and fireflies providing additional, haunting lights. Strong emotions even altered the landscape of the Feywild itself, wilting flowers trailed the despondent or furious and carefree animals traveled alongside chipper and cheerful individuals.

The Shadowfell, the Plane of Shadow, Unlike the Feywild, it was a bleak, desolate place full of decay and death. The most striking and immediate impression a visitor to the Plane of Shadow experienced was the lack of color and light; no sun, moon, or stars adorned the vault of the inky black sky, and all things looked as if the color had leeched out, leaving nothing but black and white, which in the dimness were more like "dark black" and "light black". A creation of Shar, the goddess of Darkness.

Surrounding the Mortal Realm and it’s echos is, The Ethereal Plane. It is a place where the soul leaves the mortal body to head to astral plane. A plane of colorful fogs and ghosts.

The Elemental Planes of Air, Earth, Fire, and Water. These primordial realms are what helped created Toril’s seas, land, heat, and Sky. They are where the primordials came from and where some of them were banished to. Combining into hybrid elemental planes and it the ever churning Elemental Chaos. We have now reached the Outer Planes, we shall start.

The Seven Heavens of Mount Celestia: LG. The Seven Heavens of Mount Celestia is a plane of perfect goodness and order. Vast and indescribably beautiful, it is made up of seven distinct demiplanes, each with its own heavenly mountain or mountain range, and ruled by Faerûn's elder gods of goodness and light. All aspects of Celestia were beautiful and perfect; it was where the souls of many creatures of lawful good alignment went to after death. Celestia was home to numerous celestial creatures including various types of archons, the petitioners of this plane. The seven individual layers formed a colossal mountain that rose from an infinite sea of holy water on the bottommost layer, to the summit on the topmost layer.

The Twin Paradises of Bytopia: LG, NG. Bytopia is a land divided yet unified by its purity, goodness, and relative order. One half of this heavenly plane is a perfectly cultivated, pastoral landscape-orderly in every way; the other is an untamed, unrestricted wilderness, but no less perfect and beautiful. It is also the main afterlife to Gnomes and their Pantheon.

The Blessed Fields of Elysium: NG. Elysium is a place of unrestricted purity, goodness, and kindness, given shape by ineffably beautiful landscapes, forests, and waterways. It is home to many heavenly creatures, and is a bucolic place of rest and refuge. The realm is embodiment of the concept of pure good without being overly restricted by law nor dissipated by the randomness of chaos.

The Wilderness of The Beastlands: NG, CG. The Beastlands may sound dangerous, but it's a wilderness of goodness and delight. It is a primal place of unbridled beauty, full of lush forests, flowered fields, and thick jungles, sure to bring out the animal in its residents and visitors alike. It is ruled over by the Beast-lords and is the main afterlife for the bestial races.

The Olympian Glades of Arborea: CG. Arborea is a plane of raw, untapped passion and emotion. The people here are good-natured and fight fiercely against the forces of evil, yet their emotions run high, and they can be intense, erratic, and inconsistent. Mere, joy is as common as rage. Arborea's first laver is the forested realm of Arvandor-the domain of the divine elven Seldarine and original homeland of the elves. A seemingly delicate sylvan realm of astounding heartiness and deep-seated enchantment. Its beauty was almost overwhelming, the landscape embodying the lovely and peaceful, and the passionate and wild, all at the same time.

The Heroic Domains of Ysgard: CG, CN. A plane of legendary heroes, Ysgard is not what everyone would expect of a heaven. It is a wild and rugged place with towering mountains, Floating islands, deep chasms, and extreme weather. It is place where heroes come to test themselves daily against dragons, giants, and other monsters that inhabit its depths and sprawling terrain. Where the brave shall live forever.

The Ever Changing Chaos of Limbo: CN. Limbo is just that: chaos. Here, nothing is permanent or stable; all things dissolve and dissipate in a shifting vortex of unpredictability. A place without gravity, matter swirls and transforms continuously, yet those of powerful enough mind can bend pockets to their will, even creating dwellings and strongholds in this chaotic place. Primus the lord of Mechanus, tried to bring order to the chaos by placing a magic stone to work but it backfired and created the Slaadi, creatures of pure chaos.

The Windswept Depths of Pandemonium: CN, CE. Pandemonium is a plane of madness. It is an eternal cavern with no end in sight. Biting, cold wind howls through lightless tunnels of solid rock in every direction. The noise is almost as unbearable as the cold, but even worse are the cruel and tormented creatures that dwell in the darkness. Normal fires could not survive and there was no natural light. Conversation could only be accomplished by shouting at close range.

The Infinite Layers of The Abyss: CE. The Abyss is the birthplace of demons, it is a twisted and shapeless void home to all that is foul, chaotic, and gruesome. A place of decay and destruction, its endless depths are teeming with demonic entities who know only perversity and pain. The Abyss is said to have infinite layers but others believe it has 666 layers. It is ruled by the Demons lords and by the Prince of Demons Demogorgon.

The Tarterian Depths of Carceri: CE, NE. Carceri is a plane of prisons. Its six layers include inhospitable bogs, jungles, deserts, mountains, oceans, and ice, each with impassable obstacles from which there is no hope of escape for any who dwell here. Its not a prison, it is The Prison.

The Gray Waste of Hades: NE. Hades is worse than how it’s name sounds. It is a place of unfettered gloom. Its layers, sometimes called the
"Three Glooms," are stark places without joy, hope, or passion. It is a gray and dismal place where its inhabitants become larvae, wallowing and feeding in endless despair. The river Styx flows through Hades bringing unfortunate souls to the Gray Waste.

The Bleak Eternity of Gehenna: NE, LE. Gehenna is the home plane of suspicion and greed. It is a rocky place of steep volcanic mountains that smoke and smolder, as do the temperaments of its rulers who live by unrestricted greed and selfishness. It is the home plane of the demonic barghests.

The Nine Hells of Baator: LE. The Nine Hells are the "hells" most people of the Realms think of and fear most often. The plane of the archfiend Asomedeus God of Deception, who rules its deepest layer, it is a place al fire, brimstone, and the most insidious eternal punishments imaginable. It is a place of perfect order and perfect evil. Here the Blood War is fought against the demons of the Abyss.

The Infinite Battlefield of Acheron: LE, LN. Acheron is a plane of orderly and pure conflict. War and strife pervade every aspect of its joyless, iron landscapes, floating geometric islands, geometric shapes falling down like meteors, riddled with the spirits of fallen soldiers who strategize and battle endlessly without purpose. The patron god of the orcs, Gruumsh, wages a perpetual war for dominance against the hosts of Maglubiyet, god of goblinoids.

The Clockwork Nirvana of Mechanus: LN. Mechanus is a plane of perfect order, yet unknown meaning. It has an order of nature, gear shaped halos, and architecture that is perfectly in order. Its creator, Primus, made this realm eons ago as if processing a calculation of infinite complexity and to maintain the balance of the cosmos. It is maintained by his modron servants.

The Peaceable Kingdoms of Arcadia: LN, LG. in Arcadia everything there is perfect. Streams and roads are straight, the food is ripe and delicious, and everything is new and unblemished. It is a place of perfect order where everything is pleasant, and nothing unexpected ever happened. There is a The Orb of Day and Night is a great sphere perched atop Arcadia's highest peak, with one half glowing and the other half dark. It rotated evenly and continually, at all times illuminating one half of the infinite plane and leaving the rest in natural darkness. This caused day and night in Arcadia, though there was no twilight, just day and night.

Surrounding the Cosmology is The Astral Plane. The Astral Plane is an endless expanse of thoughts and dreams. It is an endless void of starry light and shadow, a place where time has no meaning. Sometimes called the Silver Void, it is an infinite transit hub, dotted by floating rubble, the remains of dead gods, and swirling pools of color-portals that beckon brave visitors to come to the Outer Planes. It is also where the Githyanki make there home here. On a corpse of a six armed god called Tu’narath, where they ride their red dragon mounts after destroying the Mind Flayer’s empire on the Mortal Realm and hunting them down whenever they try to escape the underdark.

We reached the end of the Cosmology but there might be another realm outside of it. A nightmarish realm.

The Eldritch Nightmares of the Far Realm: ???. The Far Realm is a Plane of Madness situated very far from the planes of the standard cosmology. This maddening realm was feared for its power to twist unfortunate visitors into gruesome monsters, and it was from here that aberrations originated such as the Mind Flayers, Beholders, and other eldritch monsters. Its very unknown how many layers there are but some sages believe that there are 5 layers. We are not sure why its far away from the cosmology, but there is a theory that during the Mind Flayer’s empire in the Far Realm the Gith rebellion to destroy the Mind Flayer empire was so great that it broke the ties to the cosmology and leaving the aberrations that were on the Mortal Realm. Its a mystery.
