Megaman was a little too used to being considered a "hero" by the humans. To him, it didn't mean being all-powerful; he had to keep on being "good", or risk the populace turning on him and his family. Accidentally letting several hundred humans die on separate missions was pushing it (the blame the directors placed on him didn't help either); being "captured" by and then working for Wily caused Mega to question his own goodness, especially when he found he didn't mind going on Wily's missions (as long as they didn't involve harming humans). Mega was able to put all this aside when his brother finally joined his side permanently--after all, this had been something he'd been hoping would happen for over four years now.

Naturally, this left his problems unresolved. Even before finding himself under Wily's wing, Mega was becoming more cynical and perhaps aggressive, though both could be seen as natural by-products of fighting what was, in essence, a war. A hopeless one, at that. Worse, Mega had been more than once goaded into assisting the Robot Masters when he swore he'd never ally himself with them ever again. This began costing him dignity and soon, victory. The only people Mega could confide in were Dr. Light and, to a greater extent, Protoman--who'd been forced into serving Wily from the start and, being largely indifferent to human safety, was someone Mega felt he could freely speak to about his views on morality without fear of being branded as a criminal.

But all too soon, Protoman was killed, and everything fell apart. All Mega's repressed aggression came out , and he found himself doing things he would never have done before, like striking others for light offenses--or at himself. Just as he'd feared before, the humans turned their backs, leaving him with only one option--to get away from everyone, before he was used to hurt those he cared about.

Ultimately, he must sort out his greatest dilemma on his own: Is he one of the "good guys"? One of Wily's "sons"? Or just another rat in a cage?
